Yes, he is one of my favorite guitar players, but I am one was a little much. Unfortunately, his vocals are much more Miss than hit this is another example. They are one of my favorite bands, but his vocals are quite often unlistenable on these live videos.

I like seeing how much appreciation Jimmy gets in comment sections. As a lifelong drummer and Pumpkins fans, I didn't realize how many people were fans of his playing until I started watching old Smashing Pumpkins recordings and scrolling through the comments. I had always thought he was a more underrated and lesser known drummer, but I'm glad I was wrong lol.

The first I heard of the pumpkins was from a concert review in a guitar magazine in '92. Believe it or not, that's how we used to learn about new music.😉 A few months later, while working and listening to the local college radio station, Gish was played in it's entirety. I was floored and bought the cassette immediately. 😆 I then received the CD for Christmas that year along with a new CD boombox and several other great discs at the time. But, I do also remember telling people to remember the name. Some of us knew for sure 👍

This is the Pumpkins I want to remember! Billy with hair. Darcy with her long blond mane. And they just overpowered everyone with Jimmy on drums. He drove the songs into your skull! As a result they were more powerful than the other bands around. And the songs were good! Thanks for uploading this great early show!

Was at this show....this was 2 days before I went away to NIU. My buddy Matt worked the door at Metro and occasionally at Double Door (R.I.P) and would always let me get into over 21 shows with my crappy fake ID.

I was at the album release party for Gish at metro. Think this was a little early. Loved the 90s metro and Smart Bar. It was crazy to see the bands we saw in such a small venue and the sound on this recording does do it justice. The acoustics in that room were perfect.

@@75pdubs Eleventh Dream Day still is putting out records every once in a while. I'd group them with bands like The Replacements and Husker Du --earlier indie punk rock type stuff. Their bass player is Doug McCombs who also plays with Tortoise and Sea and Cake... the band was led by Rick Rizzo who is a great lyricist... They are sort of Chicago stalwarts

I saw them in Dec in 91 and from the moment the drums kicked in, it was like a small explosion started in the corner of the room and the shock waves hit us and kept rolling over us for the rest of the night. I had only heard a few songs from the album but my mind was split right open!

The funny thing about this band is that Jimmy never quite fit the image of the rest of the band with his mullet etc. but he sneakily turned the band to his unique way of hard rocking

I believe they started to crawl out of that post punk attitude they had in the beginning. They used a lot of chorus and a clean sound, more delicate I'd say. On this video they seemed to embrace rock as it is, distortion, chaos and etc.

Well it was 1990. I guess the sound guy thought he was working a White Snake show. But yeah, that was pretty terrible. Jimmy still killed it though. I don't think he's ever had a bad performance.

Interesting. Very good band. My first child was born 8/95. My wife and I made love in front of a fire listening to Pumkins, PearlJam, Tool Hendricks and many more. Seems like Pumpkins echo louder after all these years later. We have 5 kids and 8 grandkids now. Maybe Smashing Pumpkins were responsible for my wife and I having so many babies.. Ha!!

Pretty good considering they were an unkown act at the time and Gish wasn't even out, much less fully recorded. Not much effort put into a proper recording unlike later metro shows

Sound is fantastic, soundman for the venue was a little off but consistent for those days. Jimmy pounds through everything, Billy was cranked on all fronts, as he should be. And everybody else is doing what they should be. Overall 7.5 on the sound scale, but the footage is 10/10 this is real and raw. As it should be.
