Gloucestershire-born, Ivor Gurney was a poet and composer, chiefly of songs. Gassed during WW1, his already frail mental-health was to deteriorate and he spent the last years of his life in psychiatric institutions. The pictured CD from which this lovely work is taken is a fine selection of rare and less well-known British Music. Hints of Elgar can be heard occasionally in this rhapsody....

I have a CD of Gurney's songs which are very fine. I had not heard this work previously but have been so taken with it that I have listened three times in 2 days. Nothing for it but to buy the CD.

I just found out about this CD. The entire CD is a gem. Beautiful! I hope there will be more volumes to come. I love the British composers. In my humble opinion they are not played enough, especially in The Netherlands were I live. Thanks.
