To clean costume jewelry I use hot water in a bowl with a piece of foil, baking soda and vinegar. I have used this for sterling silver as well. Just watch your pieces and don’t let them soak long, you can scrub with a crinkled piece of foil. Be sure to rinse well with purified water and dry well. A jewelry cleaning cloth does a great job as well.

Hi. That small disk that is silvery and colorful, about the size of a dime, that you had in the first half, it is an early holographic disc from the 60's. It was designed by laser prior to the development of CDs, DVDs, etc. Very vintage, and a collector's item.

I’m a jeweller and a quick tip to clean jewellery is just take a toothbrush and washing up liquid and give it a good scrub. If it’s tarnished do the same with some silver cleaner and then use the washing up liquid. Should only take a minute or so. Watch out for loose stones though. Love your videos. Gives me inspiration and I love watching someone who appreciates jewellery.

Even with the missing stones I would try to sell the green necklace at 19:40, that is truly beautiful and I've not seen anything like it. Someone enterprising might be able to find something to glue in to make up for the gaps, if not I mean the necklace is busy enough that the missing stones might not even be noticed.

I purchased carved beaded necklaces in Japan in 1974 that were made from deer antlers, as souvenirs. They look just like yours and were inexpensive I'm sure since I was in my early 20s. No elephants in Japan! Lots of deer in Nara that shed antlers annually. Hope this helps with your research.

I watched a video a few days ago and you had a fistful of tangled chain and said "going right to a lot". You'd be there until August trying to untangle that mess.
@carolhearn81574 жыл бұрын
Hope the second half of this lot is better than the first half! It will need to be in order for you to make a good return on your $80 investment. I've avoided lots at auctions for this reason. Sellers rarely put anything in lots that would sell for more than $15. Even if all your "keepers" are worth $15 each, after taking out fees and shipping (if you do free shipping), you're left with $5 per sellable item or less, so you'd need to sell 16 of your "keepers" before getting into profit on this lot - long odds IMO. In most cases, I think the odds of making a decent return are better buying locally or buying much lower priced ebay lots.

But if you dont wear it, they might not kill another one - because nobody will see and admire it and want something made from ivory. How something made of bits of an animal that had to die could possibly be beautiful, but hey, each to his own

Honestly I would keep some of the ivory as it’s really pretty, I have 2 antique carved tusks and an antique silver and ivory brooch from my grandmother, but it’s unfortunate history is the problem. I think the dragon bracelet and the necklace are absolutely gorgeous honestly and it’s a shame that they may be destroyed, I also don’t see the point in destroying them anyways as it’s already been made. Maybe you could have a historian or jeweler date them? I don’t really know much about that sort of thing though.

Just an FYI, not all ivory is actually ivory by our definition, some of it is bone that was carved to look like ivory. It is sold to tourists who don't know what they're looking at. The bone has the same striations as ivory, since technically ivory is a type of bone. You will need an expert's evaluation to be sure.
