Making the new turntable, making the siding and more clearing of the loop area to make room for Ivy facing the opposite direction. Warning: Minor injury detail :)

Its a good excuse to put up a couple of limited clearance signs. Looking good. The loop looks like its settled in now.

Thanks! Yes the loop is pretty much finished now. At the moment with all this poor weather it is in a bit of a puddle so I may sort out some better drainage for it!

Bro, this is amazing. Do you know how many of us are living through you? 😅 I'm curious to see wide-frame shots of your set up from the road or from some other vantage point. I suppose much of it isn't visible. Any thought about drone video someday, sonehow? The bird's-eye view would be cool.

Hi Scott. I do have drone footage taken by Lawrie Rose of Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels. I will try to include more of that at some point. I did use some in the old intro. Thanks again for the kind comments!

I know its not my railway and I'm not doing the digging but I was disappointed that you left so much of those roots and glad that you cut some off. You have a friend with a chainsaw and you could wash out some soil first.... just saying.
@Elvinley Жыл бұрын
I have a chainsaw myself which I blunted last time I tried cutting roots. I am just glad to be able to get past it for now. One day it may go but it isn't easy to remove.
@wideyxyz2271 Жыл бұрын
Cutting roots with a chainsaw can be a pain. They tend to jam up the chain because they are softer than branches. That's my experience and any small stones caught up in them will soon blunt your chain!

@@wideyxyz2271 yes that's what I found. Lots of tiny pieces of slate in-between them.

You could make a PWay track gauge from some threaded rod and some penny washers
@Elvinley Жыл бұрын
Yes that would have been handy! I think I am done with track laying now.

I’ve found it useful to cut the guard down on my hand grinder from near 180 to about 90 or 100 degrees. Still got a guard but more access.

I will need to get a new one that's for certain!

Sitting here watching this, dozing. Sorry, not dozing because of the content, no, not at all. Life at the moment mate, life. So, in my half dream state, I was thinking… rail treatment wagon, to vacuum up leaves and debris, maybe even to assist with lifting the sleepers, and packing ballast. Which brings me around to… if there’s too much movement up/down of the rails, being aluminium, wouldn’t they be prone to fatigue fractures? Also could be scary on the turntable. As you’re doing a 180 revolution, you can’t have an end with buffers. Maybe a device that can give temporary buffers, or wheel chocks at both ends. Visually scary as well. A nice mostly solid fence around the perimeter would be nice. A good height, mind you.

Yes there will definitely be safety features before it is used. I don't fancy losing my loco down the bank!

Shades of Lymington Pier; although no loco ever did run off the end.

That's good to know! Hopefully mine won't either.

Hi. Did you build the "Ivy" locomotive yourself, og did you buy it from somewhere? In that case, where did you purchased it from?
@Elvinley Жыл бұрын
It was purchased as a new kit from Phoenix. It is pretty straightforward to build and takes a couple of days.
