I like them both. Jalapeños have the best flavor of all the peppers, with peperoncinos coming in second, in my opinion. Serranos are great when you need heat but don’t want to throw off the flavor of a dish too much.

As a kid, I can't remember a single time my parents forgot to add some pico de gallo with serranos on the table. I grew up associating my childhood with serranos. Anytime I eat serranos I just go back to the good old days. Today I cook with a combination of serranos and chiltepinos/habaneros. The flavor these combinations generate are really special

The secret is bite into your pepper, then bite into you sandwhich. Then, do it in reverse. You will get hicikups, but the flavors are unmatchable.
@michaelnelson3469 Жыл бұрын
Something I have learned that is especially true of jalapenos. The green glossy ones with tight skins are the mildest. I have found lots of those pretty ones to be almost bell pepper weak, but they still have jalapeno flavor. I prefer hotter ones though, so look for ones with firm skin but with darker or reddish or orange.... the darker the hotter, especially if the skin has tan lines lengthwise along the pepper. Those can be pretty hot.

Hello, quick tip for getting those pepper oils off your hands is this order: 1 spray your hands with Pam then immodestly apply dish detergent and with minimal rubbing, rinse them. 2. Apply lemon or lime juice to your hands and leave it on for a few minutes then wash them again. And if you need to 3. Apply an aloe Vera to them after.

Try Concentrated DAWN directly on your hands and rub in without water. Then scrub with a Green scrubby and water. Rinse then wash again normally. We refill the hand soap with Dawn and use small amounts because it works WAY better than the watered down hand soap. The dispenser works perfect with pure Dawn. While the watered down soap tends to collect inside the ends of the dispenser. And you know the mess that makes. Give it a try. Saves you money in the long run and it's mild on your hands. They use it to was oil spills off birds and animals. Very gentle detergent.

Great job. I subscribed, the style of videos on your channel is perfect for me. Great tip on Serrano peppers working as a substitute for Thai cooking. Today I learned! Hard to pick a favorite between these two. I’d probably go with Serranos due to the extra heat, but my real choice would be “as many different peppers as you’re willing to chop up.” Cause damn, they all bring something different to the table.

If you want to try ‘next level’ without going the whole Habanero, try Rocoto or as they say in Bolivia Locoto. Rocoto come in many forms ranging from the Bolivian, which may look smaller than a Jalapeño, yet weigh more. They have thick walls, then the larger Peruvian used to make Peru’s delicious national dish Rocoto rellano, in which the pepper is stuffed. Note here that some of the heat is reduced but Rocoto is used because it has exceptional flavour. Then you have the Mexican Rocoto manzano larger still and more apple shaped. But you can never confuse a Rocoto with any other chili because it has black seeds. It’s origins are high in the Andes, where it evolved into a seperate species which will not cross with other chili species. If you grow it yourself the plant will grow through many winters and can get quite large. I would never cook with another😂

"Are they easy to find where you live?" - a big no for Sweden. Some supermarkets have a very limited selection of peppers, sometimes including jalapenos. However, they are surprisingly bland and lack the heat of those I've eaten elsewhere (or grown myself). I have never come across a serrano. In Sweden, while bell peppers are everywhere, most supermarkets simply have no hot peppers or just one type simply designated "red peppers" with no indication of what variety they are.
@IWantToCook Жыл бұрын
Ah, sorry to hear that. Maybe growing your own is the solution if you’re into peppers. And I won’t make any meatball jokes. 😀 Love your country from the brief time i spent there. A few days in Stockholm and its outskirts in 2018. Cheers!
@Shogun459 Жыл бұрын
You have my sympathy. You are missing out. You can always order directly from the source for salsas. We buy "La Victoria" from the manufacturer. Maybe you can get canned peppers online or maybe a source of fresh peppers the same way. If your Countrymen like hot foods, you MAY have a business on your hands. See a Need, fill that need. 1st rule of commerce.

@IWantToCook10 ай бұрын
Red usually means it’s riper. Where i live in Southern California, both are relatively rare, but red jalapeños are more common. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a red serrano. The red jalapeños I’ve eaten tend to have a slightly deeper flavor, but I don’t go out of my way to seek them out. If course, if you grow them yourself you can choose which color stage to eat them at 😀
