absolutely perfect rate of fire for an LMG/automatic rifleman and I bet its just as effective at suppressing while increasing accuracy and being ammo efficient. I really wish my C9 had a slower rate of fire. a lot of armies are switching to just giving a dude a modified issued rifle, slapping a bipod on and increasing the ammo capacity for existing automatic riflemen and ditching the belt fed automatic fire which sucks because 200 rounds per box is freaking awesome

Didn't really explain what it does. Seems like it tracks the avg. orientation of the weapon and only fires when the momentary orientation aligns with the avg. What happens if the first shot was off? Will it "accurately" miss everything else as well?
@Crazylalalalala2 ай бұрын
yea that would be a huge flow. My guess would be that it shots when the gun is stable not base on any trajectory. unless i missed something.
@mattbrody35652 ай бұрын
I think from the demo with the moving target, it's possible there built-in accelerometer is measuring recoil impulse and waiting for it to stabilize. I think it anticipates that the shooter will naturally try to correct their aim over time, and so it waits for the recoil impulse and oscillations to go away and for acceleration values to fall below a certain threshold before re-engaging the firing mechanism of the gun.

So it has no cameras, IR sensors, or any other way for the Arbel to actually see the target. It only knows when it's shaking from firing and trips the sear when the user recovers from the recoil between shots. This seems way over complicated for what in practice is just a rate of fire limiter. All these demonstrations show is that the Negev's rate of fire is too high to be controllable in the desired application. If the rate of fire was reduced using a mechanical solution, would it perform any worse than this heavier, battery powered, solution? Would it be better enough to justify the extra weight of the battery? The advantage of the Arbel is that it can automatically adjust the RoF to be more controllable, but how much does it actually deviate from the average? Is it meaningfully faster or slower firing depending on your stance or how it's held? Or, would a fixed RoF from a mechanical reducer, like we've been putting in guns since before WW1, be good enought to do the same thing?
@papakamirneron25142 ай бұрын
Actually one of the few techs I can see being adopted right now. Appart from some very niche settings I think that this is a straight upgrade to manually adjusting fire rate. Well done guys, I wonder how well this could adapt to other types of weapons.

So, it appears to be a rof limiter? Correct me if im wrong, i thought it was essentially the next iteration of the Tracking Point system.
@JinKee2 ай бұрын
Yeah it seems to know that the weapon is being handled by acceleration and inertia, but it doesn’t have a rangefinder or imaging system. And it lives inside the trigger pack to interrupt firing. Hopefully the first shot is mechanical and guaranteed to fire or there would be some nasty failure modes.

So the first shot marks the gyroscope in the desired position, then the following shots are based on the set deviation from starting gyroscope position while adjusting for change on moving targets based on horizontal movement? For close targets remember to switch to auto or you will fire really slowly if the target is moving fast?

Okay, except in a couple of limited situations like taking out enemy crew served weapons, this hinders the use of an MG. Hitting one man sized target 10 times as opposed to "only" two or three is a waste of ammo on a MG. The Two or three rounds took out the point of aim target and the other 7-8 establish either grazing fire or a beaten zone possibly hitting and certainly suppressing a squad sized target not one single person.
@TheAKgunner2 ай бұрын
You’re missing the point. It’s intended for urban combat, to prevent civilian casualties with precision fire, without decreasing the chance of killing the enemy. Preventing collateral damage is the name of the game. It also slows the gun’s rate of fire, allowing ammunition to last longer, and keep the gun in the fight.

It's more about the fact that engagement distances are well into 600 yards and LMGs end up blanketing a 100 MOA area instead of a squad. Every single nation is switching to more precise suppression, like the USMC switching the the M27 as a SAW. If you're shooting at me with a M60 at 1000 yards, I'm barely worried.

Rifles need higher rates of fire. LMGs/SAWs do not. It's a myth that suppression needs high RPM. Anything over 30 RPM is enough. The myth of high rate of fire = more suppression was actually a Nazi rank-superstition that came form Hitler's love for SMGs.
