In fairness it has a few things going for it here, specifically that it's a semi automatic, so a portion of the energy that would go to recoil is diverted to the operation. Plus the bore is essentially straight in line with the stock, significantly reducing muzzle climb. On top of all that, Scott is just an absolute beast and there's also a brake helping out.

I thought the same thing. My 300 Win mag is a rechambered 1917 Enfield with 26 inch barrel. It has a very nice stock I fitted to my cheek. It still tickles my oversize eyebrow when I shoot it.

Semi-automatic and fully-automatic both function the same exact way, with the literal only difference being either a single round per trigger pull or multiple. Fully-automatic doesn't "diverge energy from the operation and convert it into recoil". It's the exact same amount of recoil and the exact same operation, except it's happening several times per second now, which is what makes it harder to control.

With a barrel that short, you have a lot of unburnt powder. Thats why you see the big fireball. But less powder used to push the bullet=less velocity/energy. Id like to see chronograph results with this and say a 20" barrel.

It doesn't have enough barrel length to recoil a lot. It's maybe getting 10-20% powder burn before the bullet leaves the barrel, so it's probably getting slow .308 performance.

It should just be a new barrel. 338 will work with the same mag, i dont know if the 458 has the same case taper but it should be close enough that the mag will still feed
