Drawing upon about a decade of Israeli combat experience, the US now has a version of sorts of the Micro Tavor, the X95. With lots of experience of the excellent Tavor, we wondered if the X95 beats it. So we set out for TNP RunNGun action, a long time standard here, is the most real world conditions we can conjure. Reliability, SAWC, value, takedown, special features of the X95, its accuracy, quality, ergos are all covered in this free 37 min gun review video. The "ranger green" or OD version shown is especially cool looking. IWI continues to bring us solid, no nonsense AR-15 alternatives that we like. But is this X95 true to its Israeli counterpart and can it ever be with our legalities? If not then does the regular Tavor SAR still makes sense as a tough, reliable bullpup tactical rifle?

i like to think of the Tavor as the Sig P320 of rifles: Modular, no frills, has the exact features you need in combat, no more to overcomplicate it and no less to leave it wanting, great ergonomics, made by a trusted manufacturer with excellent reputation for precision and quality. I understand it may be a bit heavy but a lot of that weight is the piston system which makes it very reliable, and as you said the trigger can be made better pretty easily after market. I would take the original tavor over the x95 because I don't see the need for the extra rails.

Its heavy as hell, but there is a bullpup stock conversion for the SKS. Same sks reliability and same SKS accuracy(ie marginally better than the AK) plus, if you live in commie land, youve got the option to keep the fixed 10 rd magazine on, thats clip fed. you can get really proficient with the strippers, too. Or you could do the SKS mag conversions, those work too. It looks like the tavor, so if you like the tavor aesthetics, you should like this too. I think its called SGworks. check it out.

Yes, you can fully SBR it, since IWI is selling the thin buttplate, the short foregrip and the shorter flattop rail. Then just get the replacement non-cutlass IDF style grip and cut your barrel down and it's the exact same thing as the IDF micro Tavor minus the automatic capability.

I'm sorry 8lbs is nothing, 8 lbs is standard for a m16, I humped for years with a m-16A2 and then a A4 8lbs is fine, besides weight can improve accuracy. a 8lbs and balanced Tavor, especially if used for mounted operations., yes please.
@MrDanielWP
@MrDanielWP 5 жыл бұрын
1. Weight does not improve accuracy. 2. Even M16s don't weigh 8lbs. 3. Lighter is better, given equal reliability/durability. 4. 2 pounds is two extra 30rd mags. That is a serious benefit.
@Scatch85_YT
@Scatch85_YT 5 жыл бұрын
@@MrDanielWP weight can improve accuracy if it is in the right place (controlling muzzle rise) But for the Tavor it's in the back so correct it doesn't do much. The advantages definitely are there for a lighter weight system. I pick up my Tavor and it feels comparable in weight to my AR but carries and handles like it is lighter. In comparison my 18inch Tavor handles more like a 10 inch AR and can be wielded one handed, where my M15A5 set up Armalite is very front heavy and cumbersome in comparison. An un-loaded M16A4 comes in at 7.14lbs loaded, the TAR-21 is 7.21lbs. Not too different. Commercial units of both products very a bit but they are close in weight.
@MrDanielWP
@MrDanielWP 5 жыл бұрын
@@Scatch85_YT - 1. Weight doesn't help accuracy. It can simply reduce felt recoil and/or counter muzzle rise. 2. A 7.14 lb AR is stupid heavy. You can literally buy BCMs off the shelf that weigh under 6lbs. If you buy heavy ARs, then you won't get the benefit of a lightweight system. I got a buddy who didn't understand why I said ARs were light weight, but I come to find out he has some bull barrel build and it weighed over 8 lbs. I can't help if you are buying heavy ARs or adding heavy furniture to yours. All I can tell you is that I have 2 with 16" barrels, forged receivers, and 15" handguards that weigh under 6lbs. If I had $2500 to spend, I could easily make one with a 16" barrel that weighed close to 4lbs. Mind you, these are durable, go to war worthy builds... they just weigh so much less.
@Scatch85_YT
@Scatch85_YT 5 жыл бұрын
@@MrDanielWP 1. Weight (to the front) does affect accuracy for exactly the reason you(and I) said, it counters muzzle rise keeping the barrel movement down. Hence we use compensators for the same effect. Works for handguns too, more weight less muzzle flip etc. For the Tavor as mentioned it's in the back so has no affect on muzzle rise. 2. We are not talking the commercial rifles off the shelf. My upcoming PDW build will probably clock in around 4lbs. The Original poster was referencing a M16 that he used in service. You said M16s "don't weigh 8lbs", they do when the dry weight is 7.14lbs with a loaded mag(+1.14lbs) an ACOG (14oz), AN/PEQ-15 (7.5oz) and grip-pod(7.75oz) Total weight ~ 9.23lbs. That is a factual spec of the M16. The M4A1(6.5lbs) is lighter but still breaks 8lbs with standard equipment that a solider/Marine would be humping on the rifle.
@Scatch85_YT
@Scatch85_YT 5 жыл бұрын
@@MrDanielWP additionally the Armalite mentioned is a A5 Emod style set up which has a 20in barrel. The stock is 10 oz lighter than the fixed A2. The handguards are original MOE at 12oz vs 14.4oz military RAS handguards and only wears a SPARC 2 (5.9oz) and MA TECH milspec BUIS (0.16oz) and comes in nearly a lb lighter than an issued, equipped, M16A4. So not adding a bunch of weight, it's just the size and weight of the rifle by nature. It's long vs a Tavor. A Tavor is about equivalent in size to a 10" barreled AR.

My problem with the X95 since it was first described to me: WHY would they choose to extend the buttstock to meet OAL requirements instead of extending the length of the barrel? A longer barrel will provide better velocities out of the barrel, a buttstock does nothing for me. My fear is that marketing took precedence over function, the fear was that the marketplace would not tolerate a 17"+ barrel because it sounds "too long", despite it being the best way to add to OAL. I understand it makes the gun more front heavy because the trigger and hand-guard can't more moved further forward, but bullpup designs can survive a little more weight out front. I understand that this would also reduce the length of pull, but my preference stands: Given a fixed OAL, I will take a longer barrel with a shorter length of pull any day.

@MrChompenstein

Which is more of a statement about why the x95 is even on the market . . . the the tavor is a better version of it. Ultimately you gain about 1.25 oz per inch of barrel that you add (assuming a medium weight barrel) and gain 100 ft/sec velocity. And then maybe save .5 oz worth of buttpad. Again, IMHO the performance is worth more

Anybody coming back to this video I want to let you know why the rifle has accuracy issues. The upper picatinny rail is mounted directly to the barrel causing harmonics issues but it is not a problem for the IDF since they only expect two to five moa for the purposes the rifle was designed for. If you want to make your x95 more accurate look into an aftermarket picatinny rail for the upper rail portion. As soon as you remove that you should be seeing one MOA accuracy.

Having fired the IWI X-95, I like it.. The X-95 has addressed the concerns I had with the original Tavor. 1. Magazine release location (odd to nearly all AR shooters). Now relocated to a more familiar, and rational, AR position. 2. The trigger based operation of magazine release located in a bad location (potentially allowing inadvertent/accidental trigger based mag dumps, especially in cold environments with gloved hands) has been redesigned. See Point 1. 3. IWI X-95 OEM mil trigger is actually useful and accurate now, out of the box. It's generally half the trigger pull weight of the original Tavor. 4. One bonus of the X-95 is the ingenious use of covered rail sections. They are available if you need them, but covered if you don't. This is the best bullpup rifle available. Hog hunters are going to love this even more when the .300 Blackout conversion kit becomes available.

You might think accuracy is king, but most people want RELIABILITY. Just in case. That what glock built there name on more than any other handgun. When you pull the trigger, you want it to go bang EVERYTIME. You can work on accuracy by pulling the trigger again, but it must go bang. Someday your life may depend on it. I'll take reliability over accuracy anyday. I like Keltec, but I would never depend my life on any of their products. Just sayin'.

If this has been mentioned already, please forgive me but... What we got was a semi version of the X95L, which is in IDF service. The original X95 has the 13" barrel and ultra short handguard and rails. The X95L has a 15" barrel and longer rails/handguard. It is basically the new CTAR21. So ours has a 1.5" longer barrel and a thicker buttplate. While I'd like the completely original version, I can live with what we got. At least we did get something. For a long time, a semi X95 of any type was looking very unlikely. I have close to 1k through mine so far, and not a single failure yet. Also, i do think the X95 trigger is a clear improvement over the original stock factory SAR pack, cheers.

Oh and before someone says anything, yes the 13" version is more common and has been used longer by the IDF. All I meant was that they are starting to deploy the X95L too. Sorry for not being clear.

You were addressing accuracy with the 95. I have done some reloading for the one I have access to and we consistently get sub 1/2 moa. The Sheriffs Department does load to the mission and this is where loading your own rounds shine. Put in a good barrel of 22" and it will do what you need.

It's not expensive to flip it over to left handed operation. Tim over at Copper Custom had the bolt. I sent them my rifle and they flipped it over to left hand operation including the charging handle, ejection ports; the whole thing. I got a silly Sniper sling and some other stuff, but the flip was 125.00 that included the new bolt, and that's all you need to convert it over. So again, it's not expensive to flip at all. You can pick up an X95 on the secondary market for around 1.2-1.4k. I got mine two years ago come April, and paid 1.2k. Worth every penny. That's why I bought the Tavor 7 a couple months ago now, and it is every bit as nice as the X95. I hear talk of a longer barrel for the Tavor 7, I hope so.

*Small comment: "theradbrad" game player.* *usually has the latest shoot em' up videos, and he does make comments with newer weapons, from within the game.* *it's now 5/19/18 and in the shot show, they have come out with a lighter upgraded, including a new trigger and magpul magazines in the IWI Tavor.* *Two additional things, one, my preference because of ballistics, an 18" is the shortest I'll ever go.* *And finally, in Colorado, the liberal legislation is banning any type of 'look alike' assault firearm, even thought the military has said, many times, "these rifles are NOT assault weapon!"* *The Nutnfancy videos are always appreciated and fun to watch!* *This is worthy of remembering, since the military is going to a new round, the 6.5, which is not the Creedmore; however the new 6.5 has more powder and is harder hitting and increases better over all attributes. If interested, do get the offered details on youtube.* *P.S. We like the Creedmore and Grendel, but as comments go, which Hornady has yet to address, the bullet in flight has a tendency to life and when hitting the target, it's too often sideways. :\*

Your observations on the X95 mirror what I saw on the MAC channel. Mediocre accuracy, no weight savings, convenient rails, reliable. You nailed it when you said these are mission specific battle rifles. Bullpups in general have one arm tied behind their backs... their ONE real plus is overall length. Mounted troops, Urban warfare..yes sir. But the mechanics are so contorted to provide that short length that function is affected. . There is a reason rifles developed in the configuration they did... butt stock. Trigger. Receiver/Magazine. Forend. Barrel. It works. It feels natural. It fits into a defensive stance. The linear build makes short contact points... Trigger, Receiver, Ejection, Magazine. all right there. For real world shooting it is hard to beat an old fashioned configuration, such as an AR. Just my Opinion... for what it's worth.

I shot an X95 this year and was very happy with the accuracy at 100m (max at our range) and in. Just over 1.5 MOA with 55gr Federal. Apparently it does well with 60-70gr rounds but we didn't have any of the heavier match stuff to test. Although I was skeptical at first, I left the range impressed and contemplated buying one if Trudeau gets kicked from office.

1:35 - 2:05 COD: Modern Warfare 2 and beyond features the Tavor. That was one of the few firearms where the irons ROCK in that game! Also, COD Black Ops (IMO, the most enjoyable and rewarding of the COD series so far.) has the IMI Galil, which is also an outstanding firearm in the game. Of course, trigger time aside, it's not an alternative to the real deal in actually reality! Outside of that, thank you for the honest, thorough and objective review as always, even from an IWI supporter like me. Now that another "gun-free" zone just came up from another evil, maybe another round of the Gunsmith Cats OVA is in order. That featured such a scary similarity to the project gun runner scandal that you thought that they predicted the future.
