iWish: I bought the $90 "JASON" Phone from AliExpress...and Jason doesn't like me

On stream we found JASON. We have had an encounter with SUSAN (and other weird brand names) but JASON has vibes...so we were interested to see if Jason has skills.

The only person i ever met irl named jason was this kid i went to public school with and all I really remember about him was he was pretty "hick" (lots of those in the rural area i grew up in) and had something wrong with his hands where all the skin was peeling off and no one would want to hold his hand when doing group little kid stuff...I always felt bad for him and would try to be the one next to him so it would be me and henwouldnt feel bad. I imagine owning and using this phone would feel a lot like being Jason...poor guy. Hope he is doing better as an adult.

Calls might work more reliably with VoLTE disabled, as from my experience there would be no indication why the call would fail, if you had the device set to 4G only, but with VoLTE not active at the same time.

It doesn't support VOLTE, that's why it only worked on Vodafone (only 3g network it found).

The problem is not the VoLTE support, but rather the fact that Australian operators VoLTE config isn't added to this phone. And that's a major issue with a lot of unbranded/fake phones, unless there is 3/2G in your area too.

Tux showed up because the manufacturer forgot to change the default logo in Little Kernel (aka lk), the default bootloader for Qualcomm devices older than Snapdragon 835. Newer Qualcomm SoCs use a very locked down UEFI to boot Android. It happens on my ZTE Axon 7 too.

SMOOREZ, have you considered getting a leash for your kitty, for the times you take her outside? My cat is a 100% house cat, but she likes to have the occasional adventure in the building's staircase. We put a leash on her that that doesn't go around the neck, but around the body like a harness. This way you can protect her from the road, other cats, etc. but at the same time she'll be able to walk on the ground. Not all cats like them though, admittedly. Great video as always!

I looked into this a little more, seems like this company is no longer around, apparently this and a regular nonplus Q787 are the only two phones they ever made. For context, Chinese domestic smart phone market peaked in 2016 and 2017 (in terms of units sold), naturally there were tons of failed smart phone startups during that time. I think the most likely this seller is a liquidator, and this explains how and why they got their hands on tons of these "no name brand" phones from this era, they are basically flipping these dead stocks as budget phones.

I remember the Chinaphone brand Vernee, they actually made ahockingly nice phones. Like you said tho thry went out of buisness after a few years (IIRC in like 2018 or 2019). There was also Elephone, who opened a physical retail store in Morocco before they also shut down like a year later. Then there is Leagoo, MAZE Mobile and Bluboo. All shut down around the time you said. The only ones that actually survived are Ulefone, Oukitel, Blackview (Blackview is from Hong Kong so they have good quality control, Ulefone/Oukitel found a successful niche in those 8000mAh giant battery rugged phones) and Umidigi (who seems to be the most successful, they sell a suprisingly large amount of stuff on Amazon).

The file manager is the old Cyanogenmod File Manager, thats why you see the CM logo on the files. Also, this is clearly some sort of modified CAF AOSP (AOSP for Snapdragon), probably based on a revision not meant for production, that would explain the bugs and lack of optimization. Also x2, I'm 90% sure this phone has a backdoor setup for mobile services haha.

I've been seeing top mounted USB port phones given out via government assistance programs here on the US. Primarily someone under a canopy with signage, chair and table with stacks of those underneath the table on the widewalk. Just got to show that you're on government assistance. Normally the OS is Android GO meant for low power devices. Depending the model you'd be lucky to get one that suppports 128gb of MicroSD storage as most of those only support 32gb of external storage.

The LG DualScreen series had those pins as well, to connect the second screen, which was just a case. At least the first and second generation, the V50, Velvet, etc. The last one, the V60, had connection through the USBC.

Absolutely brilliant. This phone belongs in a health care facility. It's as bad as the original Jason who is older than I am lol😂 Ripley looks awesome, I understand the keeping her as a mainly I door cat. Its is safer for some depending on where you live. Although some people build "Catios". But that's you to you. My cats say "hello". I could see whatever I thought I saw on your arm in the last video. Lol but still some nice tatts. I like the resident evil photo. The cuts again very funny, especially with the commentaries. Definitely showing your personality. I watch because I may learn something. I like seeing how things work. Just a note about your method of battery testing. It usually takes about 3 full cycles if charging and discharging before you'll get the true representation of the battery life. I'm a service tech btw. Cheers
