It looks good, but could have saved a lot of time by skipping out on nailing and using a drill press with the Forstner bit, and then use the dowel in the middle.

Exactly. The bonus is when holiday season is over, you can easily fold it flat & store away. All nailed up makes it impossible to store away (easily).

I used 60 boards. however you can do more or less
