When I was in primary school, we used to have a “milk break” in the morning. Two students (They were called the “Milk Monitors”) would go and collect the classes allotment of free glass bottles of milk and the students would take a break to drink it, I would volunteer every day to go help to collect it as most students didn’t want the collection duty, the perk was the Milk Monitors got to have an additional one from the ones that weren’t consumed. One Parent/Teacher meeting my teacher said how helpful I was to always volunteer, my parents replied, “Didn’t you know that he love’s milk? He’s only doing for the extra milk”. After that the Milk Monitors were by roster only, first time I learnt as a child that you could be disappointed by your Parents. I’m 56 now and yes I’m still bitter for being ratted out by my parents 🙂 We used to save the foil lids throughout the year and string them up as Christmas decoration around the classroom.

@@agirlfrommars3441 It was only done in the larger schools in Victoria, we had it at Lalor East Primary School, but when we moved to the country and went to Drouin South Primary School they didn't. Drouin South Primary School was very small (about 100 students total and still has about that amount today), they heled the kindergarten in the library, years 1,2 and 3 was heled as a combined class and years 4,5 and 6 was also a combined class, so there was only two real classrooms 🙂

I've used Lube Mobile for over 7 years now, It's a franchise system and the local Lube Mobile guy lives in my street. So whenever I need my car serviced or repaired I just ring him and he's usually here within 30 minutes. Price is about the same as getting your car serviced at a garage. It's obviously more convenient, if you take your car to a garage, you have to get a lift or a taxi to go home until they ring you to collect it.

Thanks for the video, Ian. The appliance at 19:29 is an electric frypan. I had one (Sunbeam brand) for many years. You could make anything that you could in any kind of pan. You could even use it for the Sunday roast with the lid on. It was like a large rounded off square frying pan with a built in sealed electric element on the underside. It had legs that lifted it up a couple of inches above whatever hard surface you put it on.

The controller cords with the prong were safe because the big prong was the thermometer that told the controller on the cord when to apply power. It probably was also the earth connection. The fry pan socket part had two smaller prongs that went into the controller and they formed the power circuit. By the time you got the controller bit out of the socket in the pan the live parts were more inaccessible than a power point on the wall. I have never heard of anyone being electrocuted by one.

I knew quite a few homes with that amber glass. Sliding large and small partition doors, pocket doors, and some houses actually had fixed internal windows between the lounge and entry hallway with that glass. It always reminded me of my old Space Lego and the same yellow coloured windows and transparent pieces.

15:50 I worked at Maccas as a teen and if you were taking orders in the drive thru, one of your jobs was “assembling” those cardboard rings so they were ready for kitchen staff to use. It took up so much space and so much time, but it was a super chill task and you got to sit down. It kept the larger burgers from being squashed when they stopped using styrofoam and all burgers came paper wrapped. Replaced with the cardboard boxes.

I was born in the mid 60's and even if I had 5cents in my pocket as a kid, I would go across the road after school and get some lollies. They had 1c, 2c and 5 cent ones. You would point to what you wanted and into the white bag they would go to be eaten on the bus going home. 10 cents you were doing well, 20 and you were set. I never had 50 to spend but 20 cents was plenty.

We had the same, three kids would get 20 cents pocket money every Friday night. On Saturday we would pool the money and buy 20 cents worth chips (The minimum at the time, wrapped in newspaper) for lunch and then spend the 40 cents on mixed lollies, most were ½ cents each, but some were ¼ cent and the best were 1 cent each. We also had a Maltese neighbour that would give us kids 50 cents when we visited, it was like wining the lotto and because I was the only boy she would give me an extra 50 cents when we left and say “This is for the other hand”. I felt like the riche’s boy in the world

16:50 yep, a personal pizza. think they only came in ham and pineapple. we used to order our lunch by writing what we wanted on the front of a paper bag with our name and then taping the money to the front. we would do that before class started and place it in a tub. each week 1 it would be 1 students job to take the tub to the canteen just after class starts, then go up to the canteen and pick it back up just before lunch. your order would be placed inside the paper bag. 19:30 that is an electric frying pan. used to cook pretty much anything you would normally cook in a fryingpan, but they tended to be a lot bigger and most people cooked strews and things in them. If i remember correctly, the middle spike did not actually conduct electricity, it was the probe for the thermostat in the plug. the contacts for the electrical were on either side of the spike. 20:30 had one last night, was good.

So many things in the book remain with me now that I'm quite old.

Pocket Colour TV's 😂...I remember black and white TV's and even when there was no TV in my state. We were fortunate enough to get one of the first ones and it was one of those big tube TV's. Yes it has all happened within my lifetime. I could still sing the Lube Mobile ad word for word and yes we certainly do have mechanics come to you house to fix your car, fairly commonplace here.. Cocktail franks are yummy and we still have them. Jelly beans are always available in the chemist. Often bought for diabetics to eat when their sugar drops. Oh heavens, orange glass/perspex/counter tops was a thing in the 70"s Hopefully never again. Oh my goodness the electric frypan, probably most homes had one, I know I did and I am sure some still do. 14:30 we had one of these at our infant school (kinder to grade 2, it was later shut down and combined with the primary school, so that then offered the normal kinder to grade 6 instead of being 2 separate schools) it was in the shade in the morning and only just started getting sun about halfway through lunch so was never hot. I made the mistake once of going down it after school while I was waiting to be picked up one day and burned all down the back of my legs.
