@@aussiesupersnake6642 lol. HSV, in my opinion, kill the FPV on all levels. Aesthetics, performance and reliability. I’ve owned several of both. Ford to me a softer and more comfortable feel but the Holden’s are just better cars. Not talking late 60’s and early 70’s. Talking 80’s and up. Holden dominated for a reason.
@Cliffy1616
@Cliffy1616 3 жыл бұрын
@iamthebroker Yeah I’d say Holden were definitely better from about mid 80’s through to early 2000’s, the XE was the last decent Falcon made until the Ba. So yeah the xr6 turbo and its Fpv variants that were introduced with the Ba’s were pretty great and I’d say the Turbo’s were what really kept Ford competitive for a good while as the Xr6T’s were that tad quicker than both their Holden and Ford V8 competitors. And the F6 could hang with the HSV’s and was quicker than the Fpv gt’s. So yeah from about BA through until FG the turbo 6’s wether it was the xr6T or F6 were pretty great, but by the time of the Fgx The Falcons started showing their age a bit too much. But as for the V8’s Ford just couldn’t keep up as the boss 5.4 just wasn’t nearly as good as the LS V8’s. The 5.0 Miami’s were pretty good but were introduced later in the Fg’s life and the FGX motor aside just weren’t nearly as nice as the Holden VF range. So yeah I’m a Ford man but Ford just made some stupid decisions from about the Xf until the Au. The Ba/bf/fg were pretty good and were much of a muchness with their Holden counterparts, but once the FGX came out Holden were just better again.

Ex-Ford tech from NZ here, worked for them from 2001 to 2016 and while there got to un-box many Fords & FPV's, fully check them over, fill them with fuel and put a few kilometers on there clock's. Highlights for me had to be.... -2006 BF GT Build #1 first ZF6spd Auto - what a gamechanger from the 4spd -Numerous Typhoon, F6 310, F6X, G6-E Turbo -GT-F 351/404KW and the Ford Sprint6 325/370kw -Then I left Ford to work for myself as a mobile mechanic. Was there as long as FPV was, perfect🙂 My brother has a couple of Barra drift cars to keep the FPV addiction fed, one a destroked 3.6L Barra Nissan Silvia S15 470kw+atw, with a FG XR6T Drift-taxi Caged 4 Seater with 410kw being a recent addition. In 2021 Ford still employs 2500 engineers, designers and other specialists in Australia on research and design for global products, making them the biggest employer in the industry in Australia even though they don't make anything here. so they must have accumulated some valuable research and development skills that Ford did not want to lose at least.

The FORD Falcon V8's from BA with the 5.4L Boss motors had a muffler at the back that had a spring loaded pressure plate that would open at a certain exhaust pressure allowing more flow and sound bypassing some of the muffler when you put your foot down. The Falcons with the 5L from FG2 had quad exhaust tips, the outer ones were smaller than the inner ones. The outer were the main exhaust going through the mufflers and the inner ones were secondary operated by vacuum lines, opening at certain RPM and were straight through pipes they were loud.

Originally the 5.4 was a single O.H.C. engine and the 4.6 was twin O.H.C. until some one noticed that the twin cam would fit on the single cam engine with minimal, if any, machining. So the Boss engine was born. As it was with, I think ( please correct me if I'm wrong) the original Boss engine that was a Windsor block with Cleveland heads. The best of both worlds. I owned FPV F6 Tornado No 20 for a number of years. Had pretty much restored everything bar the paintwork on it (and hoodlining of course), Plazmaman cooler piping, high flowed the turbo & GFB BOV- plenty of fun with that setup. ZF went better after replaced the shift solenoids in it+ a service. Had to sell it as needed more than 2 seats. I do miss the damn thing, had a lot of fun in it (nice twisty roads & plenty of flat open roads) Got an FG XR6 manual now that i have a GTX4294R turbo to throw at it+ pistons and shit to go in once i get the time

I bought my Ford BA Fairmont Ghia when they came out in October 2002. I still have it and I'm not looking to upgrade anytime soon. The Ghia is all electric with Dual Zone Climate Control and Seat Memory Module which means the seat positions, climate control settings, radio settings, pedal positions and mirror positions were all programmed and activated depending on which key fob is used to unlock the car. You have three key/fobs with an additional three memories in the side of the seat. As for power, WOW! And I don't even have turbo, that thing just up and goes, VERY quick off the mark. My headlights don't have the semi-circle cut outs along the lower edge, just a clean straight look and additional turning lights instead of fog lamps, very cool. I couldn't help myself, when the BA came out it was so different from every thing else before, yet so elegant, I instantly bought the top line standard sedan addition (the LTD is 18" longer and I don't like how the longer cars handle) even though until then I had been a Renault fan primarily.

The Barra Turbo, was a 4 litre (3984cc) or 243.1 cu in , straight 6 DOHC, engine developed in Australia. The fun fact, is that the NA engine was the “Barra”, named after a fish, the Barramundi. Internally within Ford Australia, the Turbo version was called the “Gull”, short for Seagull. It was called the Gull, because even before it was born, many knew it would, shit on everything!

I have a FG F6, totally stock in manual. What a vehicle. I seriously can't talk it up enough. Cracking punch when the turbo comes on, and just keeps pulling right through to the redline. Problem is, taking this vehicle to redline after 2nd gear, and you're almost breaking every speed limit in Australia, not to mention getting there quick even in stock form... It totally sucks we don't have them anymore, that goes for the Holden (GM) side as well. FPV and HSV were just awesome...

Two years ago, I bought my 2010 G6E Turbo for AU$10,000 (US$7,000) with 250,000KM. The price is now about AU$20,000 (US$14,500) - AU$25,000 (US$18,300). So even high km cars are of value. I've probably spent less than $10,000 replacing the suspension with coilovers, getting larger rims and a flex fuel tune, as well as some other light mods. That gets me a car that can hold up to the big boy cars and still carry all the people and groceroes I want. A perfect combo.

250.000km. On a barra is nothing though. As where in some cars the motor would be almost due for a complete rebuild. The barra inline 6 is only run in at that time. The Barra inline 6 is guaranteed to get a little over 1 million km before any rebuild is needed. How many performance engine you know can do that? Not many. You will find the transmission will die before the barra inline 6 motor will

My dad has always been a Falcon v8 man. His last beauty was a 2013 FG GT Falcon that had all the added extras as it was the dealership owners personal vehicle when they first came out. It had over 400hp in the rear wheels. It didn't belong to him too long as my Dad bought it from him after a test drive. It was specially tuned by the dealership which they won awards for the way they specially tuned them and it sounded pretty much like a v8 Supercar. It had the most amazing snarl to it as was always a head turner. Das bought it for himself after upgrading from the BA XR8 Falcon. I got to drive the GT a few times and OMG...you just touch the accelerator and the thing took off. It ended up being my Mum's drive to work everyday and my dad only got to drive it twice a week if he was lucky. Unfortunately my Dad has to sell the amazing beast urgently. It was like he sold a family member off, saddest day ever! I think I even had a tear in my eye that day. Will have to find the photos of it on Facebook as I don't have my laptop with me and post them. It was in a rarer paint colour of between a cherry red and maroon, called 'seduce' with the gold pin striping. Such a beautiful car and so sad that they don't produce these awesome vehicles anymore as they along with Holden's were the popular family car. Im in the South West of WA and once the FG Falcons were realised, the XR6 & XR8 really became the standard basic model and the FPVs GT and F6 ect were the more sportier family car and very popular here. When I find the photo I'll post it.

The barra 270T is in earlier models, the 310T uses a smaller turbo so it spools quicker but the extra power is from more boost and compression and timing changes, the garret turbos on these come ready to produce about 3 times as much boost as what stock tune demands. 310T and 270T also have fully forged internals which only became normal in stock lpg models from bf mk2 onward.

I'm 60 years old I've done a lot of shit. Ford and Tickford management were so secretive about the change that I attended tickford morning management meeting everyday at 7 am, I hated that, we knew there was a change coming but didn't have clue about FPV. I even recall when the first sample parts arrived for proto builds with a recess for the FPV badge and we were trying to guess what badge could fit in that space. And you are right nothing sounds as good as a highly tuned straight six, find some clips of TVR's a just relish the noise.
