Love that this popped up in my feed. I’m 65 yo now. I was addicted to this sport when I was in my 30’s. My personal best was 3@ 32 off. What these guys are doing is unreal. Side note: When I was 57 yo I took a friend up on a pull at his private slalom course, I went out at 30 MPH 15 off. OMG it was soooo freakin hard. I only had enough fitness to attempt 3 passes. I skipped the gates but guess how many passes I made of the 3? Yup, you guessed it, zero. Lol Best I could muster was 5 balls at 30 mph 15 off. But I gotta tell ya, it was awesome. I’m smiling as I type this. Phenomenal sport. Sad to see it die.

All the people that have never run a water ski slalom course really have no idea how hard this is and the amount of force and strength it takes. I know! And what they are doing is incredibly hard. My hat is off to all of them skiing with a line that short.

These are the best athletes in the world... PERIOD. I used to water ski and play basketball. I have always believed that the slalom water skiing was what allowed me to jump so high in basketball. The amount of force that the legs need to exert to keep the upper body from being pulled forward... is unbelievable. The winner from Indiana could easily leg press 1400 lbs., if not more.

I don't think basketball requires much athleticism lol. Endurance and skill sure. But athleticism? How much strength do you really need? How fast do you really need to be able to run? Basketball requires good genetics more than anything. Soccer football rugby, sports that require agility, endurance, power, and speed.
When they shorten the rope length, why don't they take into account the skiers height and reach?
@owolff43146 жыл бұрын
Simon Godfrey it's just the skiers advantage. Most of these skiers are tall.
@igoski15825 жыл бұрын
IMO, the few inches a taller skier may have on a shorter skier is not going to make that much of difference. You either have it or you don't. Besides, I can see no way to achieve this to "even it up".

Should the shorter basketball players have the basket lowered for them?
@simongodfrey37653 жыл бұрын
@@crimdell No, because it's a team sport and a team has players of differing heights. Waterskiing is an individual sport and you could take account of the skier's height when changing the rope length

A better way to compete would be speed thru the course where the boat can go as fast as the skier wants it to and the line can be say 50 feet long and fastest thru the course wins this would also be a better way for jumpers so they don't have to do that crazy angular cut towards the ramp just let the boat drive 65 mph or however fast the ski jumper wants it to go this way they can stay to the left of the boat it would make for longer safer jumps.
