This brings a lot of golden memories! I was part of ushering duties (NCC) I was posted at JN stadium at West entrance for VIP's, from where we were watching the Asiad flag hoisting and rendering of this song!!!still fresh in my memory even after 40 odd years! Am sure many of ex Asiad NCC veterans are here !! Let's here from them as well!

Most of the Anthem like compositions of India, have been created by Ravi Shankar. The introductory music of All India Radio and Doordarshan were so beautiful and haunting, that when I was a child and I heard the music, it felt as if the music is coming from a very known corner of my memory as if from a previous life. I learnt only recently that even another anthem saare jahan se achchha was also composed by Ravi shankar.

There are umpteen references to Pt Ravi Shankar but the learned readers would also be reminded that the Shahnai was played by the equally great Ustad Bismillah Khan.

+r8rdarklord The only way this song could have been better is if the singers knew a little Sanskrit grammar. There is no halant in Atha therefore the pronunciation is not Ath but Atha. Similarly, it should have been sung as PriyamaBharataBharatam rather than PriyamBharatBharatam.

Is that the Carnatic version/ name of the Raga Kalavati? Because as another commenter has mentioned above, this is based on Raga Kalavati by Pandit Ravi Shankar.

It was not created by Ravi Shankar ( as stated by Jaya Bhattachrya) . It was created by Late Shri Ananda Shankar. He was Pandit Ravi Shankar's nephew
