Iya Whiteley, Ph.D., Principle Research Associate Director of the Centre for Space Medicine, discusses trusting and learning from pilots.
Presented by Nolan Laboratory and the Stanford School of Medicine in November 2023 at Stanford University, the symposium convened an unparalleled meeting of leading voices from academia, government and industry to collectively drive forward a new academic legitimacy to UAP.
The videos encompass the various talks from across the two-day event, addressing the science of UAP, the potential societal impact, and considering the necessary steps to enable responsible sharing of any information held on the topic. Their release reiterates the Foundation’s message of increased transparency and disclosure surrounding UAP information and regulation; a defining theme of the symposium.
About the Sol Foundation: The Sol Foundation is a research institute that funds and guides scientific research. It produces policy and advisory research aimed at addressing the UAP issue and preparing society for its social implications.

This was my first Sol video and it sets a high standard. I believe we are transitioning away from a culture of shaming pilots, to one where we can speak openly - and I think it's essential for aviation safety.

The shaming that you speak of was part of the government's disinformation plan extending well into the 1940s even during world War II when British aircraft had filmed one of these UFOs. Winston Churchill order that it'd be classified for the next 50 years. Winston did not want the Allies to be distracted particularly the public. The Americans did their able best quite successfully to discredit deny and distance any disclosure even while studying these things intently

THIS is something I've had in my head for at least 40yrs... Synesthesia, literally seeing, tasting, things differently to most people, is something I've learned of fairly recently, but it perfectly describes my hypothesis in my early twenties that we might not all see/perceive reality the same way... you have to love this subject!!

So, basically: - Iya begins with a reference to "2001: A Space Odyssey" and the idea of encountering phenomena beyond human comprehension. - It discusses the challenge of articulating experiences when lacking the vocabulary or tools to express them, using the example of expert surgeons who can't fully explain their intuitive knowledge. - The speaker highlights the personal and transformative nature of experiences, emphasizing the importance of paying attention to them. - Anecdotes about astronauts experiencing phenomena like flashes in space are shared, revealing their reluctance to report due to fear of being removed from flight. - The speech touches on synesthesia, the blending of sensory perceptions, and how it's utilized differently across cultures. - It discusses experiments suggesting that human intention can affect physical systems, challenging notions of unbiased scientific observation. - The concept of unintentional blindness is explained, where individuals may overlook phenomena if not directed to pay attention to it. - The unique cognition of pilots is emphasized, along with their continuous problem-solving and sensory perception in the cockpit. - The speaker stresses the importance of listening to pilots' experiences to enhance safety and understanding in aviation. - There's a call to expand the understanding of human perception beyond the traditional five senses. - The speech concludes with a discussion on the film "Solaris" and its exploration of communication with non-human intelligence, urging further exploration into such phenomena. - Collaboration with a psychologist to empower pilots in integrating transformative experiences into their lives is mentioned as a future endeavor.

Note: The slide shown at the outset of this talk, containing the quote "My God, it's full of stars" is not from Stanley Kubrick's film 2001: A Space Odyssey, but from the tedious sequel 2010: The Year We Make Contact, based on Arthur C. Clarke's 1982 sequel to his 1968 "Space Odyssey" novel, titled 2010: Odyssey Two. (It contains text superimposed over a still frame from the original film.)

Thank you Dr Whitely for your contribution to the UAP subject. I am an airline pilot for 25 years now as well as teacher for Human Factors/CRM. I never thought about that we pilots can’t express ourselves in a certain way for ex the question „How do you land the plane?“ Your lecture was an eye opener for me. I personally sighted a UAP almost 20 years ago. If I talk about it with my colleagues I still get the giggle factor. Your and the work of the rest of the Soul foundation is highly appreciated. What she is neglecting to save either because she does not know or she has not read into the subject is that these astronauts and remember they are military men have been instructed not to discuss such things. She presumes that this is rooted in an inability to understand the phenomenon that they may have seen a couple of whatever cultural baggage the astronauts may have but that's great psychobabble but it's for not. It's for not because they've been told not to discuss it and that builds up a certain amount of pressure concerns and isolation. Let's look at people like Lou Alexander former intelligence officer still wants to keep his security clearance and he doesn't want to risk prosecution. Imagine being an astronaut back from the 60s and 70s that was even more pressure to keep quiet. Nice lady but wrong

If the human needs both halves of the brain to be complete; it would be logical to think you NEED both halves to come to UNDERSTANDING. I am sure most good artists/designers are currently channeling and expressing ideas from outside, we just haven’t been given the opportunity to help. Just like expecting AI to become conscious with only a 1/4 of a “left/analytical” brain is misdirection, so is the study of the NHI phenomenon. Great talk and series.😊

The left hemisphere fails miserably to see the whole picture. The right hemisphere is the "obtaining and acquiring" side. Most people grab things with their right hand. It tells you why the right is going along with Putin and dictators. They fail to see the whole picture. They want to grab power. We'll set them straight. This is America. We do not side with dictators who are by their core nature absolutely 100% adversarial to all or any democracy anywhere. Uh duh.

By the way AI will never become conscious in the sense that we are because AI is just a symbol manipulator really. A classical computer only has switches and gates that route a signal, whereas a living cell is a living blueprint of an organism. You can know a living thing from one living cell of that living thing. We are part/whole. A computer on the other hand is a mechanical mess when taken apart. It is just a symbol manipulator that cannot have an actual experience of qualia like being, feeling, tasting, or seeing the color red. It could never know what it was like to taste of an apple or what it's like to have an experience of being.

AI can be a revolutionary TOOL of organization if we can start putting humans first. Part of her problem is is that she's a rooted in the wrong perspective that there is a cognitive cultural breakdown. There isn't. The military has engaged in a do not tell do not speak of it policy that has gone back to even world War ii. Intelligence community as well. Making people look like they're unstable tin foil hat that sort of thing has been part of this government's practice and policies for the better part of 70 years and it's not because they don't know these things exist it's that they don't want to discussed. She seems to have missed that completely.

My father was an airline pilot in the 80's and several crews simultaneously saw a cigar shaped craft over Germnay, near Berlin. There was no fear, only curiousity. It appeared on radar and air traffic control were aware but did not comment directly, just diverted aircraft off path a bit. No-one mentioned it as it would mean they were likely to lose their Civilian Licennce. I am really happy to hear that there is now posotive engagement with first hand witnesses who can eloborate on real events with accuracy and insight.

What are the problems with Diana's presentation is that there is a tendency because she is a religious studies professor to view things from a spiritual perspective. The benefit people like Diana bring as well as mythologist and anthropologists is that religious faiths and their adherents have been the unwitting witnesses to phenomenon to which they ascribe religious meaning but that does not mean that that is correct. It's like a child who sees an event and places meaning upon it that may not be entirely accurate. The value of it however it's not that they're going to lead us to spiritual truth, no it is that they may be in touch with events mythologies stories observations that could be helpful but not dispositive

It’s about time that orgs such as the Sol Foundation, as well as the New Paradigm Institute, start stressing upon the public the importance of practicing meditation, so that earthlings learn to come to terms with realities whose nature cannot be grasped by fully incarnated intelligence. meditation expands consciousness into the non-verbal as well as the infinite, and helps equip you to face realities that 'ordinary' consciousness is unable to compute. the two organisations might consider working in partnership with such organisations as the Monroe Institute and the Heartmath Institute...

I am intrigued by the reports of random number generators not being random. I experienced this when Producing TV Quiz shows 2004-2008 when 'randomly' selected callers were put through to the live show. Some really wierd stuff went down with a 'pool' of random callers. It appeared for an hour, looking like the system maalfunctioned but we tested multiple times aterwards and there was no explanation. There was a full investigation that prooved the equipment was not at fault. As hard as we tried, by trying not to visulaise an event it just made it happen. The odds were incredibly small. A very lucky man won a lot of money!

An important consideration in the talk about our intention/consciousness affecting random number generators is that random number generators aren't really random. They are software that runs algorithms to generate numbers approaching true random chance. Some processes use atmospheric noise or other such variables to generate random numbers. So if our intention/thoughts/WTC towers falling affects random number generation, you gotta look into those variables/processes to see how that might be happening, y'know?

Learning by doing experience-> Intuition and memory associations such as synesthesia, "wordless" knowledge that exists continuously in the holography of standing wave modulation. In the time-timing sync-duration sense, this inside-outside holographic positioning image in which we are suspended is "ghostly" resonance and in the hyperfluid ocean of logarithmic condensation-coordination. Instantaneous trancendental i-reflection containment in Euler's e-Pi-i Unit Circle derivivation indicates symbolically what, how and why superimposed quantization of prime-cofactor frequency density-intensity alignment amplitudes are all memory associations Imagery. 6:00 Does anyone have more information on the phenomenon of astronauts seeing 'stars' ? This can be brought on by meditation, also. Some dedicated meditators report 'visual snow', but there are also those who report being able to see 'kalapas' which in Buddhism are fundamental units of matter - they appear as tiny points of light which flash in and out of existence. One night I went to bed after watching a video on how to develop perception of kalapas and I thought to myself 'I really want to be able to see kalapas' and there was a burst of scintillating light in the center of my field of vision accompanied by a feeling of joy. Then the 'sparkles' filled my field of view more evenly. They are not like retinal flashes, which I have had for years due to being extremely nearsighted. I can turn them on and off, provided I am in a relatively calm state of mind. I don't think they are really kalapas, since in the video I watched (by Kate Upton) she said her student could see the kalapas of his parents miles away; for me, the sparkles don't seem to change when I try to focus my attention on a particular object or being (e.g., my cat).

I did some searching and found the Wikipedia entry for 'Cosmic Ray Visual Phenomena', aka light flashes (LF) and 'astronaut's eye'. Super interesting. Like the astronauts, I tend to see LF most often before going to sleep. However, I have also seen them in bright light outdoors after meditating for around 20 min; I was able to alter the number and intensity of the 'sparkles' at will for a few minutes. My LF are pin-point, most are bluish white, but a few are orange, red and yellow. My LF are way more frequent - hundreds per minute vs. the astronauts' 2.9 to 6.8 LF/min. I'm wondering if astronauts are taught to meditate since it is good for stress management? Would an astronaut who has had a lot of meditation practice be able to modulate their perception of LF at will?

For commerce at the beginning would be helpful for people like civilian pilots, let's call them amateurs who fly their small planes as opposed to commercial pilots, and be helpful for them to have some help maybe digesting what they saw particularly if there of the frame of mind that only crazy people see these things. Even that is largely a stretch because the public is aware of UFOs and while speculation exists as to their natures there may be more than one it is fair to say that people are not going to say oh my God what is that and how do I interpret it I'm having a snowflake moment. About the only thing she brought there was a real value was it discussion of where quantum behavior is at the periphery of a macro world and that is interesting to hear a relative layman like her, yes I know she has a PhD offer an adequate exposure to the public of this scientific phenomenon particularly as it relates to the fluidity of time.

Right now S.O.L. is looking like an exercise program to find out if Alligators Bite hungry or not. it all depends on if you have been tormenting them, doesn't it!

I looked at the Tree and thought. This is only known as a Tree to Humans. No other creature on Earth knows this as a Tree. The Tree does not know itself as a Tree. So how can it be a Tree? Because we Humans demand it so? No. It now becomes something that is not a Tree. But something Humans identify as Tree. We modern Humans need identification of all things. To make sense of and function within these complex societies we find ourselves existing in today. But underneath all of this. We now know the identity is not the existence of that being identified. Everything exists from the standpoint of its own existence. No matter what it is called or identified as. The Matrix of Human Understanding is a Prison. A prison we need, to function all together in a complicated modern society. But we can sometimes get a glimpse or a sensation of what exists outside the prison walls.

Break these stigmas are respected and professional pilots experience here in the US compared to world wide governments like the UK as example they have reporting agencies to take UK pilots experience's seriously and with merit. Why the hell does the united states don't have anything? These are highly educated hard working pillars of are community. They should be heard and listen too. So educated and professional people can make solutions for whats happing now . Im tired of the high school drama the way the American government has treated this subject completely neglected the data covered up the truth and ruins professional pilots live. I dont blame them for keeping their mouths shut. They have families to feed and bills to pay.

I think there was too much flowery language and a small bit of word salad, however the sentiment is completely spot on. I have no idea what she's talking about with the proven nature of things that sound like psychic stuff and ESP. I don't go to that unless we have experimental data, and if it isn't repeatable by some means then it isn't scientific. 🤷🏼‍♀️ That being said, trust pilots and their stories. First hand experience is a form of data and reading patterns in that data IS scientific, so yeah. She completely lost me at the "random number generators stopped working on 9/11" stuff. All I can request is that you prove it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The doctor has it largely wrong. And this is concerning because people are depending upon her for information. Her approach is that their psychologically affected by what they saw and they don't know how to express it. Is she completely unaware that these military men, these astronauts, we're instructed not to speak of these things? It is distressing that a so called expert is unaware of something as elemental as they are instructed not to discuss it. In some ways her presentation coming from a false premise is even worse than the military is denial and disinformation as she's pointing Us in the wrong direction because she herself is rooted in error

It is very hard to present your research on a short speech. Researcher mostly have presentatiins (talks) to other researchers in a focus and technical way so they are not often able to communicate effectively with general public. Often they are not even great teachers but non the less their research is very important and interesting. Look at doctor Nolan talk… His research is of great value but his talk is not great… i like more when he is interviewed.

I’m a professor and have given many presentations at conferences. I found her speech rambling and she poorly explained psychology concepts and bungled Dean Radin’s findings. She did not link early concepts in a way that made sense with her ideas on cognitive language development or pilot experiences. Anyway, I get what she is trying to say but the delivery needed work. The SOL foundation is doing great work and I hope she comes back with a more cohesive approach next time around. Us academics have to be held to high standards because so much is on the line!

Skeptic Michael Shermer said there's nothing special about pilots or astronauts that makes them better observers than anyone else.😂 He clearly had no idea what he was talking about.

I was shocked to hear how unprofessional the pilots who were chasing the "tic tac" shaped UAP sounded! One would think that the more extraordinary a situation in the air is, the more stable their temperaments would have been. They sounded like a bunch of 19th century Cowboys watching a horse being broken. Those are not the type of pilots that I would be inclined to bend over backwards to believe.

Personal attacks on some of the best trained observers /military aviators in the world won't negate the evidence of the encounter as confirmed by multiple sensors and Multiple credible naval officers and NCO's. "Disclosure" is a process of finding facts and adjusting our understanding of what is true when warranted by the evidence. "Disclosure" is NOT a single event or individual that can be negated by petty remarks from trolls, fools or those who seek to stop the general public from learning that we are in fact not alone.

So, with the tic tac video, there are at least 4 professional and elite pilots. And at least one of them was a commander. They see an unknown object trespassing in U.S. airspace, defying what we know as physics, that could be hostile, and these pilots are laughing and "yee hawing" during the entire encounter? An unknown trespasser that they were seriously instructed to investigate as part of their responsibility to protect the nation. They or the ship could have been attacked at any moment, for all they knew. And they're yucking it up the whole time. Professional? Yeah, okay.
