Such a powerful moment between Ms. Vanzant and the caller who was describing what happened to her. When Ms. Vanzant was asking her to “just breathe”, my wife closed her eyes and took a breath. I watched as tears fell from her eyes. When you went to break she told her story for the very first time.😢

At least they tried to protect her later by keeping him from her - So that was good. Too bad the statue of limitations has passed. "Lot of R. Kellys out there that we haven't dealt with in our families." 👀 When I was in middle and high school, we used to call these girls 'fast.' Many times we resented them for being with the men. And I do mean MEN. But we never said anything about the dudes because you don't 'hate' on dudes. That's how we're brought up. Man law. Now, I am 38 and I find myself realizing what was going on back then. You're talking about girls who were 11, 12, 13, all the way to 18 (because 18 ain't really grown). And these were full grown men are preying on them and they're being enabled, many times by us. Anywho, good conversation. Necessary conversation.

I was 12 when the first man began showing interest in me. I was terrified. It made me so self conscious for being tall and dirty for my body maturing. And I was only a child. Even in high school I can remember men (six years older, I was 16 and they were early twenties) coming to my high school with their flashy drug dealer cars (80’s) waiting on school grounds to make their attempts to take girls out to lunch or picking them up after school. I always felt like a target. This sick behavior was so rampart. I don’t remember any of the school staff intervening. It was all systemically accepted and at the cost of many young people that didn’t understand that they were the prey until well afterwards.

Truthfully, 21, 22, 23 for many of us as young adults, are NOT "grown" and since the brain doesn't fully maturate until 26, I'm inclined to say grown men should leave ALL children under the age of mental/emotional/spiritual/financial maturation ALONE even if their physical bodies have the appearance of "grown."

This brought up some feelings I had forgotten about! My grandmother always feed this blind man from her neighborhood. She would tell me and my cousin to take him his plate. My mom told me not to go down there and she told my grandmother as well. One day we took him the plate but he was in his bedroom. His son was there in his bedroom and called us in there when we were about to leave. He grabbed me and started touching me but my cousin started beating his but! I bit him and we ran out the house and I was crying. We promised each other to never go there again and not to tell anyone. YEARS later I was dating my boyfriend at the time and now my husband I saw that man standing on a corner and screamed and started crying! I told my boyfriend/ husband about it once I calmed down. He was shocked because he knew the man as well! This happened when I was 7 or 8. I didn’t tell my parents until I was in my 20’s. My mom cried and my dad was angry. My mom was a new nurse at the time so my grandmother kept all the grandkids. She said she always prayed when she left us because she worked so much. My grandmother kept us while my mom and two aunts were all getting started with their careers so I know she was overwhelmed. I’m shaking just thinking what would’ve happened if my cousin wasn’t with me that day. We did send my boy cousins down there after that and they left that mans plate at the end of the driveway every time from then on lol 😂! We never told them why we didn’t want to go though. They become very protective of us after that and they were much older than us.

I remember when I was a teenager because eventually I had to come back to the house and the cycle continue I eventually left home but when I left home I wrote a letter to my mother and full details what was happening to me the sad part was even though my father did evil things to me you knew you know who I hated the most my mother I tried to poison her I didn't really hate him I mean I hated what he was doing to me but I didn't hate that man I hated the woman that let that man do those things to me she is now passed on and I don't even think about her or go to her grave I don't really think about my family at all just my immediate family.

Thank you for having this segment. I honestly don’t think this epidemic is more prevalent in the black community than in any other. I know that is not at all the most important point but does deserve acknowledgment. When Iyanla spoke to powerlessness I feel all men feel a type of powerlessness to women. If someone has something you desire and that person can say no, there is a powerlessness, whether real or not. I also don’t think that enough studies about testosterone are conducted. I hear much more about women and hormonal behavior but not the same towards men, young men and boys. Powerlessness combined with uncontrollable hormonal reaction is a form of intoxication and over rides reasoning along with environmental teachings. We know women have not had rights and have been marginalized throughout history. Society gives permission. There are so many factors. Again all races equally victimize their women and children.

That doesn't exempt the older man from practicing high morals. The adults are supposed to righteously guide the youth in the correct direction. Too much thinking with the lower nature has the entire community messed up.

And so many girls look for the father figure that was lacking in a single mom household, confuse a little male attention for fatherly love. It's very messy but Ms Vanzant said it, you have to find the Divine in you. Be still to recognize the answer is in how you handle the situation going forward. You got the power.

@@abundance6484 yes let’s keep the convo on the adult. I feel like that was a nice way to say they were being “fast”

@@jackieburns5257 this is very interesting. I read her transcripts, she followed him from state to state trying to please him. I hardly think he lured her by saying he believe in the Bible, she thought she was going to be “the one.” I am all for accountability. He’s being held accountable, but for some reason this lady and so many others aren’t.

I hear you lisaluvasil; but IMHO, LEAVE them "ancestors" alone. . .some of them are just as guilty. As for me, I'm seeking WISDOM as I seek ELOHIM, for when WISDOM calls, she calls out with a voice that doesn't play!!!

Now that was a very powerful and positive truth in many family. I totally agree we do have a DIVINE powerful energy source to call upon right now for much needed healing. I love the fact that you Professor Hunter choose to address the difficult subjects. Thank you because that's healing too.
