*_FIVE YEARS since I first watched this clip ... & it just keeps getting better with the passage of time ... it is of course in the nature of things that the Spanish are the pluperfect 'Maestro's' of giitaara music ... after all they invented the old belly-fiddle in its current incarnation ... but this woman is off the fricking Richter scale in terms of the gorgeousness of her voice, her face, her 'Andalusian' eye's ,,, her raw emotion - & THAT is what great music is all about,,,we delude ourselves in the 'Anglosphere' that we produce great 'chanteuses' ... NO ONE [excepting Patsy Cline of course] in the english-speaking world ...comes even close to this lady's awesome talent...anyone know what's happened to her???_*

Peter Ward - I have watched this video for over two years and I get captured by her voice. I was curious about your reference to Andalusian eyes You probably did not mean this, but i have Andalusian horses of likely the oldest and, to many, the best bloodline. Their eyes are a distinct feature that people speak of. Above, I ask a "very intelligent" question about the man's guitar playing. I find guitar playing of his style to be the most beautiful. HALF JOKINGLY I ASK: Is it genetic? Is Eric Clapton incapable of playing that way? Merely a style?

@@Rebecc765 *_Cheers Rebecca - a 'thought provoking' reply indeed!! ...The name "Andalusia" is of course derived from the Arabic word Al-Andalus (الأندلس) ...I was simply speculating that Izars magnificent eye's are most likely inherited from Moorish antecedents - as was the 'gitaara' ... as for lead-guitar guy - totally agree - THAT is how guitar was meant to be played!! ... how he actually manages to remember chords/scales/note/key or what to do with his fingers, etc. whilst in such close proximity to the gorgeous Izar - remains forever an Iberian mystery....Eric, on the other hand is a different kind of musical genius altogether - quintessentially working-class English 'Master of the Art [I am duly reminded of Faraday...] - & therefore ipso facto , unimpeachable IMHO_*

@Peter WARD Peter, thank you for replying so quickly! I tried to respond to you for 24 hours and calamities occurred back to back that thwarted my efforts, including accidentally flinging by phone across the room. I froze, stared and wondered if I had just experienced the first case of a seizure occurring in a pair of human hands. Text messages from my two sisters yesterday, in which they discussed this song I had sent the night before, indicated you responded quickly, as I read things from them like, "... No, that man told her ...". They love her beautiful voice; were comparing a cover of this song we have heard for years by Emmylou Harris (who grew up in the same city as ours), who is great at "any wailing" sung at the end of songs and we sisters agree that Izar's beautiful Spanish singing voice is the most captivating. Her "wailing" of the melody at the end is beautifully soulful and powerfully sung without having to try very hard. I guess we Southerners are fans of that "wailing." Sadly, I perceive a signal from her to the guitarist near the end of the video not to bother with the repeats of that ending that other artists will do, likely, due to the 'party bargoers'' inattention and making it just not worth it. I have seriously considered trying to get a friend to clean up that sound because I return to hear her singing in this video so often. I would have answered you more quickly, but I reviewed photos of my stallion, Regaton II, a former Spanish national champion in Movement and Conformation imported from Seville, and hand picked by Juan Llamas, the breed expert of Spain. Juan also chose my top broodmare, Embrujada. I wanted to show you those eyes. They are a feature for which both the Andalusuan "breed" of horse and the "bloodline" I own within that breed, "Bocado" of the Carthujian Mountains, is famous. I wish I had replied earlier. I worked on a reply to you, reviewing probably 100 photos and carefully selecting a few to show you the right expression. I often put effort into something like this only to find that Miss Brilliant Technology User is exhausted when anticlimactic conclusions of my best efforts are ensured by my "inability to FIGURE OUT how to post a photo of mine to KZbin.' It is frustrating. My sisters and I love her voice and, Susan, searched for other music of Izar (the name of a star, I believe). She could not find anything. I sent a message to a friend in Spain to inquire about her. I DID think you, likely, meant her Moor heritage in referring to her eyes, but being involved in the breeding of Andalusian horses, there is also a separate discussion of the beauty of THEIR eyes, which no other breed of horse has. One photo of my stallion selected by a friend of mine (a breeding expert) and chosen to be featured on the cover of the largest Equine magazine here shows those eyes. The EYES were the reason the photo was chosen for the magazine cover and the photographer unauthorizedly swapped it prior to publication, not knowing the mistake he made and never obtaining my permission. The EYES are described as larger than any other breed's eyes with an expression of inherent wisdom; connectedness to humans; the presence of an "Old Soul"; and, as I saw in Izar's, almost a twinge of sadness, if not felt, just being the mark of a heritage of rich culture with centuries of times of loss or struggle that I do not have. As a lawyer, I am familiar with a type of property inheritance called Generation Skipping Trusts. I have Generation Skipping Talent to Make Music and Generation Skipping Fascination With Horses. The latter, is dominant in my genes and on full blast. The former is recessive in me, but I do have a "feel and love" for music. Our mother was a classically trained Coloratura Soprano and pianist who sang beautifully. We grew up with music and those dominant Horse Fasination genes interfered with our piano leesons. BEFORE writing to you or sending that video to my sisters, we three were sharing this video which Alison sent of the singing and "kind of" the performance of Flamenco, also from Andalucia, and how the Moors' influence is very present. The down arrow of this video gives information. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGmle6qDZcqkn5Y I hope I am not bothering you, but you seem to know much about Spain and the Moors and I would love to follow with a video you might find interesting, complete with beautiful guitar playing. If I am boring you, I do not expect that you bother with looking at it. I realize that not everyone shares my fascinations with horses and history, but I have recently learned some fascinating history involving my horses, Spain, the Moors, Portugal, the Knights Templar and a present say "'blessing" of the legacy of the Bocado Andalusians. The guitar playing is really like no other and, now don't laugh because I know little about playing guitars, but it seems I can hear harmony played on those strings as well as other beautiful aspects. Eric Clapton is wonderful. He and other guitarists are great. I just know what "sounds" appealing to me, like the sound of a 12 string guitar and the playing of the guitar by Spanish people. THANK YOU, PETER, and you really do not have to watch anything else I send. I will enjoy putting it together for myself because all of this came together, actually, within the last week.

@Peter WARD So sorry to take so long to reply. Legal matter. LOVE that music and, especially, Bobby Gentry's voice. It is soulful to me, as is so much music I was raised hearing. I am so technically frustrated and I cannot figure out HOW to post my photos. I do have something to show you. It is not the eyes, but the horses in motion to music. In one part of the film, camera at ground level, one horse's large right eye is visible, but not nearly well enough. Regaton is a gray (the white ones - born dark, changing many colors up to dapple gray and white by age seven - I say by age ten). Three more colors appear in small percentages and 85% are gray (white). Gabor Szabor! Amazing! WHERE DID YOU FIND "BLUE EYES CRYING"?! I was in tears by the fifth note. I cannot find Izar recordings and have a whole collection of Eva Cassidy!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5jRea13oruZrZI The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art in Jerez de la Fontera, Spain is the home of what had been the Spanish Royal Andalusian horses, a Spanish National Treasure, that gets confused after Franco and Fascist Revolution, the Royal Family's "relocation" flight to the UK from that country. The horses were bred and trained primarily by the Yeguada Militar, the Spanish Military and its breeding farm, along with the maintenance of the Stud Book, for many centuries of intricate breeding and training to become the ultimate military battle mount for soldiers through time. Even today, in our breeding, training and riding, called "Classical Riding" (or Dressage) we "attempt" to follow as closely as possible the Spanish and Portuguese military traditions and techniques. This breed of horse has the most advanced abilities for what is now the performance of an art, but what actually is the most advanced Cavalry Mount among horses, making a formidable fighting unit when mounted by a skilled soldier. It is the only breed with the genes for the performance of the Airs Above the Ground (passed to descendant and cross breeds at varying levels) and which appear to be dramatic tricks or dancing by the horses nowadays. Actually, every gait, move, turn, stand or jump has some battle or fighting purpose. The cues to the horse are given subtly with leg or foot pressure, movement or touch by the soldier and which is almost imperceptible. This was perfected through time to allow the soldier to have his hands free to fight with weapons. Spain had trained and used these horses for centuries. The Knights Templar and the Islamic Assassins likely rode them when they had a safe haven in Spain and Portugal after the 1307 murders of the Templars when they were needed to fight the Moors in Spain, later likely settling in Portugal. Regaton's Bocado bloodline dates to the 1400's in Spain. Maybe you will like this. You are so interesting.

This will sound musically stupid ... why can people of Spanish descent play a guitar as beautifully as that man does and I have NEVER heard a single American play that way? I like Bruces version (the original), but I cover it in a Chris LeDoux style and tempo to suit my own style voice and tempo. Why not let ppl. sing and cover songs in their style, preference and liking....hell Johnny Cash covered Trent Reznor "Hurt" by Six Inch Nails...and made it his song.

It's about emotional toughness not physical. The lyrics suggest that the singer realises the other person might well have been hurt before and so can be guarded when it comes to relationships, maybe even to the extent that they can be a little rough on potential new partners but they (the singer) are tougher than the rest and able to take it and pass the test, until the other person's defensive guard comes down.
