What new features would you want, although the clamping arrangement looks fairly tired.

what is the difference between this and charpy test?
@JB-yl4re2 жыл бұрын
Hello. The Charpy test typically holds the specimen horizontally and the Izod test holds the specimen vertically. Thanks!

What's the purpose of the V notch?
@jeremybraithwaite12323 жыл бұрын
The V-Notch allows stresses to build and failure in a predefined area that has been machined to a standard and controlled size. This will also give us more accurate comparative statistics when testing different materials or material conditions. Thanks for the question!

What is the acceptable result in izod test? How can we say for example a composite material is safe to use?
@JB-yl4re Жыл бұрын
Hello, good question! This testing method is used to determine the amount of impact energy (ft/lb) required to break a specimen of a specific material at a specific temperature. We use this data to help inform the material selection process when designing parts for various scenarios. Acceptability would be a material that fails above the forces you expect your part to experience. I will also say that this provides us with data to help us make informed decisions about choosing materials and coupled with virtual simulation these types of tests are very valuable; however, they do not take the place of real-world prototype testing. I hope this was helpful. Happy making!

@@JB-yl4re What usually is the force we are targetting for us to say the material is acceptable?
@JB-yl4re Жыл бұрын
@mambajorgeiiic.462 It changes based on the material and the application.

Isn't he exaggerating the danger quite a bit? I know he's talking to engineers, but even they should be able to handle such a simple practical task without injuring themselves.

0:29-0:31 should read "there's a lot of potential energy stored in there" not "kinetic energy". The potential energy is converted to kinetic just when it begins to fall. I stand to be corrected. Thank you
