iZotope RX 9 - Real World First Look

In this video I take a look at some of the new dialog repair features in iZotope RX 9, and also some old favourites.

RX 9 brings such range of new features to the table, I've really just scratched the surface. Here I see how the new dialog repair tools function in a Podcast and Post production context when artefact are not an option, and you just want to hear the voice in its cleanest state.

Great vid!!! It seems like a great program!! I hope you do a video about removing guitar or vocals, for instance for a backing track to play with??!! I am really interested in that particular feature of this product...and how well it works...would you happen to know if you can do that in the standard version of rx9? I'd be tempted to buy it now at 299, but if only the pro version does it at 799,..that's gonna be a tougher purchase for me..

I have RX7 advanced... is there a big difference with RX9...? Do you think it's worth upgrading? I love RX7 but if 9 is even better, now's the time to get it.

There a definitely a bunch of new features, and improved algorithms. Check out the website, as they discuss all the new features in v9. I’m pretty sure music rebalance wasn’t in v7, which in my opinion is worth the price of admission alone.

Hi, can you mute all the instances a person talks in a recording automatically? Can machine learning algorithms recognize the vocal signature of someone's voice and just mute it in all instances he said something in a recording? Is there any software/plugin that can do this currently?

Depends on whether you mean to mute the entire signal when someone is talking, or just remove the voice and keep everything else?

@@encapsulatio It depends if people are speaking at the same time, or separately. If separate, it is easier, but still not simple, as you may want to keep the background sound, and not have complete silence, which sounds unnatural. If they speak simultaneously, and you want to remove a single talker, it is in the research field of multi-speaker separation, and there is no commercial software yet to do this.

@@henriksundt7148 I don't care if background sound is removed. No the speaker does not overlap his voice with others, he speaks separately. What do you suggest knowing this?

@@encapsulatio I have not heard of anything that can do this currently... but if you are lucky and they have different enough pitches in their voices, you could try to look for plug-ins that color your waveform based on frequency. That way, as an example your waveform could be mostly orange when one person speaks and mostly yellow when others speak. .. it might not be 100%, but it would give you an visual aid to faster navigate your recording. (it would also allow you to spot rumble, esses and other problems)

Fantastic tutorial, i use izotope to edit my video sound i use with Davinci Resolve i am totaly bad very bad whent i talk about edit sound my problems its when i am finish to edit in izotope my sound have a delay with my video , what i am doing rong . Sorry for my english.

Hi Cristi, thanks for watching. It could be something as simple as zooming in and making sure the waveforms are aligned. Or it could be a sample rate mismatch. Check you’re ending up with a file of the same sample rate as you started with 🙂

I’m Curious ...here in Orlando you can’t film more than 2 min without an airplane. What module you suggest for airplane noise? I’m watching the video a few seconds in...if you address this I’ll delete this.

Hey David. There are a few modules that would work, depending on what you’re recording. Is it voice? If so, dialog isolate would be your best bet. Depending on the sound of the aeroplane, you could also ask RX to learn the sound, then De-Noise using that noise print. This may work better before dialog isolate to remove a bit of the issue in a broad stroke. I find that remedying an issue with a couple of modules is often the way to go when dealing with very intrusive sounds. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching 😀

@@SamLoose when you remove the vocals from the music. The music don’t sound like new instrumental music. It sounds like opaque and buzzy sound.

I think often that’s down to trial and error with the setting on the music rebalance plugin. It will change depending on a few factors and will be different for each track. Definitely worth experimenting, as it has got me great results in the past 🙂

Dialogue Isolate @1.44 you state the problem b/g noise will "completely disappear" ???? You're joking. That might cut it in a podcast but definitely not in film/TV/Broadcast. It can be improved upon with some careful listening and a few passes with other modules (spectral De-noise and repair) as well but it ain't magic.

Only rx9 advanced has the best ambient removal why even bother to put out rx9 standard? Smh descript does the same as rx9 advanced removing all ambient noise for affordable price.
