asura's mantra form is (based on this DLC) the closest equivalent to gouki's (akuma's) strongest form: oni. thus, asura wants to beat him with it as his equal. he refuses to take the cheap way out. like say, using a stronger transformation.

Apparently, the sequel was the DLC. From what people told me, Capcom wanted the game’s sales to be up there with RE and street fighter( when those games were out longer than Asura) but it didn’t. Because of this, Capcom told the devs to turn whatever they had for the sequel into a DLC. About 7 months ago one of devs made a video about an Asura’s wrath 2 because people were asking him about it and he said they had no intention on making a sequel but they wouldn’t mind remastering the game. But they said that that decision was up to Capcom

People often assume things like "he's got no stamina" because he's weak in game. What they forget is that they had to do that to balance him. In his first SF2 playable incarnation, Akuma was overpowered... and wasn't even Shin Akuma. Fun thing is, they tried to balance him in another version of SF2... and he was still overpowered.

Akuma have said that "It's always fun to kill a god", meaning that he has already killed gods in the past. Oni says that his power moves worlds, and he's called "The Destroyer of Heaven" for a reason. If *Shin* Oni > Oni > Shin Akuma > Akuma, and Shin Akuma can destroy planets with his fists, then Oni *can* "move worlds"... since Shin Akuma is a joke compared to Oni. So yeah, Shin Oni (Oni at full power) is partially omnipotent.
