@retroking59
@retroking59 4 ай бұрын
@@fadya.3660 I'm not hating. He is primarily a kick boxer that stays away from the ground at all cost. He's good at what he does but I don't see any "bending" of styles. Pereira is similar. The way they fight is not new. They fight from the outside and either hit stationary opponents with kicks or counter with punches.
@fadya.3660
@fadya.3660 4 ай бұрын
@@retroking59 I specifically questioned you using the word “basic”. Nothing about his kickboxing is basic. For MMA, it’s elite. Top level. His distance management is elite for kickboxers. His ability to feint not only with his hands and feet, but with his hips is elite. His ability to quite literally bend with his upper body and stay at exactly the range he wants to in order to pick apart his opponent with precise timing and accuracy is elite. He attempts to stay off of the ground at all costs, and how many guys have gotten him there? There’s a reason for that. He’s earned respect from anybody who could theoretically get him there. His defensive wrestling is great. 12 straight wins at middleweight in the UFC only happens if your style of fighting is quite literally anything but basic. Eventually people get enough film on you and figure things out, but it didn’t happen until he hit his mid-30s and cemented himself as a great champ. If you think his style is basic, then everyone else must be literally primitive. It’s basic when that’s only what your eyes can see.
@retroking59
@retroking59 4 ай бұрын
@@fadya.3660 he is an elite level kickboxer. You seem to be under the impression that I am calling his skill level basic. I am not. I am saying he clearly has a kickboxing reliant style and that his style of fighting is not unique. Just because he is elite does not change that. Of course there are other facets to his game since grappling and submissions are involved in MMA, but everything he does is tailored to keep the fight on the feet and on the outside, like a good kickboxer. I'm not saying he sucks but "Style bender" seems more like a play on words than an actual way of describing how he fights. Btw, Dricus literally jumped on Izzy's back as he was running away and choked him out because he knew Izzy wanted nothing to do with the ground. Even Jan had success with a full mount in the final round of their fight. Anderson Silva was dangerous everywhere. Jon Jones is dangerous everywhere (even outside the octagon lol) They are more "style benders" than Izzy ever was.

Izzy discredited Whittaker being a New Zealander even though Whitaker is of New Zealand orgin and his mom is Maori. So Izzy getting so upset with someone doing the same to him is so hypocritical. At least Whittaker never sold out New Zealand by saying he had "the heart" of some completely foreign country that he has no real ties to.

As an African/black man who is American and Nigerian, I had conflicting feelings about what both said and did. Personally, I had disagreements with both individuals for various reasons, but Izzy really disgusted me this time around and I did lose respect for him. Especially after he lost the way he did. He was putting up a good fight until he got caught and couldn’t defend himself on the ground. He’s past his prime for sure, but he still tapped. I don’t agree with what Izzy said and did when he walked into the ring and addressed Dricus with the N word. It was distasteful and disgusting and even a black American would not have been that foolish in such an alternation publicly. I don’t recall Floyd mayweather, Ali, or any black American addressing their opponents in such a manner. Izzy as an African New Zealander had no right to that in my opinion. Also, the way he called him a pink pig irritated me as well and I LOVED how Dricus carried himself and did not further escalate things. I don’t agree with Dricus using the phrase “real African” if he did and I could see how that may get taken out of context as well. If he said “residing” as he clarified post fight as well, then I have no problem with him saying that as a black/African man myself with parents who are biologically, ethnically, and culturally African (Father born and raised in Africa). My nationality is American and I love my country just as much as Dricus loves his own. When I fill out my taxes, employment information, and essentially every aspect of my life, I MUST identify as black/African regardless of being American. Dricus must identify as White/Caucasian (or any other non-African ancestry) if he were asked/forced to choose. He resides, lives, trains, eats, etc African, but outside of nationality he isn’t one of them. Just as Americans migrated and claim the new land as their nationality, it doesn’t make it their ethnicity/biological heritage. Dricus would be treated as any other white/Caucasian American if he lived in America and would not be identified as an African outside of a conversation. Afrikaans is not truly an indigenous African language (to my understanding and may be wrong) and South Africa is the most “European/white” African country with a sensitive history of colonization just as a lot of other African countries. In conclusion, I am happy Dricus won in hindsight and Izzy was a complete embarrassment that night. He’s all time great for sure, but his character is questionable. God Bless 🙏🏽

I agree Izzy isn't way better at striking than everyone else. But he is top tier striking. Also, his faints were a game changer. He was able to freeze up opponents, screw with their timing, make them grow impatient and expose themselves. Besides the faints, his striking is top tier, but nothing mindblowing. The biggest issues I have with him is that his style leads to boring fights unless his opponent forces action (which Izzy wants because he is looking for you to have to cross his reach advantage and will counter you) and I really dislike his personality. He is corny/cringe and he is racist.
