The bump behind the cockpit is to reduce wave form drag at supersonic speeds, same as on the J-20A. It also allows for more room for fuel and subsystems. All new fighters are going to this way. I've fallen into the rabbit hole of Chinese military boosterism - the South China Morning Post. It's theoretically the main newspaper of Hong Kong and is supposedly blocked in mainland China. However, they still have a comments section for most articles, and they report a ton on every little thing having to do with the military of the PRC. By reading those articles and the attached comments, you'd think China was considerably superior to the US in every military technology. They will take anything and everything out of context to make it sound like China is going to wipe off the floor anyone. They don't see any faults to the Chinese military and make a lot of excuses. I guess the latest is some theoretical research in China claiming that they have a design that can improve afterburner efficiency to 99%. And the comments are like they've just blown away anyone else. Only it hasn't been put into an actual flying engine yet, and current afterburner efficiency is about 90% (which is just how much of the fuel is burned). But anyone who knows just the basics of afterburners knows that using them is woefully inefficient, and a 10% increase in efficiency isn't going to do much. In China they have basic problems just producing military engines for the J-20, and it's not just single-crystal turbine blades but a host of things that's creating low yields. They're still not at the point where they have anything as good as the F119, which is a design that's 35 years old.

Saying its a copy of an F35 is what brainlet NPCs say, its actually based on the SU-35, which is evident when you look at it from the back, with a stealth body kit like the F15 Silent eagle. Still, F35 - Concord character J35- Stellar blade character

actually they start on the baseline of the MiG, not Sukhoi. the engine form factor it is using is the same as MiG27 and JF17. you can literally switch their engine around and it will run, just not as fast. this in part make it an attractive export option for a country can own a mix of these 3 planes and use the same engine support crew.
@hughmungus2760Ай бұрын
@@lagrangewei which begs the question when the WS19 is introduced, would JF17s be able to use it? They'd actually become a medium fighter with that much thrust.

It's a combination of the f35 and f22. China had a spy steal the design blueprints a few years ago (it was a very public event.) So, while not a copy of either plane, their engineers didn't start from scratch either.

the lack of a HUD as a backup has on record caused the loss of at least one F35. Maybe redundancy isn't a bad idea after all.

Curious, would the F-35 have had two engines the V/STOL B-version didn't need to exist?
@HystericallАй бұрын
no, it's an idiotic compromise that doesn't really work. especially for a naval fighter, when you're over the ocean, having a single engine without a backup in case of failure or damage is a dumb idea..
@RocketToTheMooseАй бұрын
@@Hystericall Eh, perhaps it's less desirable, but "idiotic" is rather strong considering planes like the A-4, A-7, F-8, F9F, and several other classic single engine Navy combat jets.
@jawarakfАй бұрын
@@RocketToTheMoose the JSF is basically a cash cow project aimed at making money out of US, NATO and allies with parts that aren't reliable yet expensive when Russia was no longer a threat in 1996. If there wasn't JSF, the F-35 will have optional stealth and conventional variants STOVL fighter mainly for USMC. The stealth variant with internal bay will fly air to air air sweep sorties and also air to ground SEAD and strategic strike sorties. The lighter conventional variant won't have internal bay would serve as air to air missile truck and air to ground CAS carrying only external payload. If there wasn't JSF, US Navy would receive 60-62ft less swept wing Mach 1.8+ twin engines stealth fighter bomber with side bays and large internal bay having long range and better armament than the present F-35C. The air force would adopt the enlarged F-32 with rear elevator fins that can go Mach 2.

I wonder if their sensors are on par.
@watb8689Ай бұрын
their radar are at least 1.5 generation ahead, they have eodas etc, much more advance sensors on board. after all f-35 specs are pretty dated, even upgrades require more power output. That requires to even upgrade the core of the F-35 engine. The beauty about J-35 twin engine, it generates more power that needed for all the sensors, radars and electronics on board. There is much more room for upgrades. Fat amy designers never thought of that huh
@lagrangeweiАй бұрын
@@watb8689 despite being twin engine, J35 does not produce more wattage than F35 (with current engine anyway). I would agree their radar is onpar since China is the leader in material processing, even F35 sensor use material from China which congress hated but has no choice since alternative would cause 2 year delay in F35 production. what is less clear is if their software and data processing equal. sensor by itself doesn't tell the pilot much without good software that is EW proof.

From an Indian🇮🇳 perspective🧐, an American pilot's statement that everything is state-run without the influence of lobbies and contractors is quite alarming😨. Despite the risks, PM Modi is not procuring fifth-generation technology and lacks a technology and strategy to harness India's human resources. Maybe India should have a dedicated minister for home affairs similar to the one for foreign affairs, and the current home affairs minister could take on the role of defence minister.🤔

Relax dude. Everytime I see an Indian commenting on China, they are always so desperate. Chill man, India's time will come. But not now. The future is bright, but it will take time. In 50 years, India will be a force to be reckoned with. For now, just relax. Cnina and India fight with sticks anyway, who cares if China has a J35. China doesn't really care about India, They are focused on US. India should worry about countries your level like pakistan or bangladesh. And also, you should team up with China to keep these westerners out. Stop being so jealous. If you keep focusing on China, the US will eat your lunch.
