Portillo is not pronounced "Porteeya" in English. There is a restaurant chain in my town called Portillos. No one pronounces it "Porteeyas". Use English and do not use idioms.

Art, please refrain from trying to correct the announcer from correctly pronouncing the Mexican players' names. We as Hispanics-Mexicans take great pride in the fact that when we play this sport that we love, we want to hear our last names pronounced the way they were intended. Portillo, Parilla, and so on. Those names need to be pronounced as they are. The english alphabet does not possess the double ll, rr, or ~n. (ninos, is not pronounced ninos, its pronounced ninyos). Even Dean, the last IRT announcer, pronounced the names correctly. My last name is Ibarra. It is not pronounced Ibara. Can You roll your double rr's?

It may be correct in Spanish but not English. Hence either speak in Spanish or English but not both. I was born in Germany and have lived in several foreign countries and not one else that I met does this. When I lived in Japan my first name is Art but Japanese people called me Aato. They did not pretend to speak English if they could not but instead used their own pronunciation @@carlosibarra1789
