Y'all my favorite commentary channel. Mostly because y'all give J. Cole the acknowledgment he deserves. I am from Fayetteville and I see what he does for my city with no fanfare. People say he is so fake but I think he's out here doing what he can with what he can. He is the reason why I decided to go to college for the first time in my 30's. Because anything's possible. Your life can change so much in one year. His music made me do more for my community. I want to be a better person. This is why he will always be one of my favorite rappers. From what I’ve seen (and reading the piece he recently wrote) the climb back is representative of him getting his inspiration and creativity back. He was sort of stuck for a while because he wasn’t “hungry” anymore he wasn’t trying to make it in the industry because he’s already done that. He’s made hits and he’s made meaningful tracks with a message so he felt as though he’s done all there is to do. This song and up coming project is him really proving his skill/growth and getting back into a creative space.(: he’s always needed a purpose to create music because as y’all said, he doesn’t make music for the sake of just making music. I recommend you guys read the piece he wrote called “The Audacity”

I think it’s his understanding of how to change his cadence and flow to the tempo and overall sonic vibe of the beat. Even if there were no lyrics, the way he makes subtle adjustments in his flow, melody, and cadence in order to compliment the beat, makes his voice sound like an instrument and a natural extension of the beat. I remember being like 14 years old, and just listening to his voice flow over a beat, and being mesmerized by how, on that particular song, how consistent it was. His voice was so rhythmically consistent in tempo that it sounded like drum.

Then once I heard the song again it just hit me like a ton of bricks, no innovation. 😂 This man was sent back here to try and save us. This is why I laugh when people say "Cole is basic" or "he's not deep"... The intent/content behind Cole's lyrics is what makes him a deep thinker. He doesn't have to use a bunch of ivy league words to say something profound(that's why he's great). That only appeals to the intelligent snobs who feel others are beneath them. It would be nice if people used their brain & realized there's more than one way to get your point across.

best song of 2020 to me, I think the Alliteration he uses to start the song is fire, the hardest line to me is “Trash rappers ass backwards trying to go toe to toe” that’s fire, and my favorite scheme (And this song is full of schemes, hardest scheme is the pole scheme where he says “staff strapped on top the totem pole and blast at you” which he caps with the bass masters bar) but my favorite among all his scheming is the clothes scheme where he adds a diamond/gold making scheme to it and ends it with “they foldin under pressure but u know what coal/cole do, making diamonds they just rhyming, me I’m quoting gold.” That’s so hard, and crazy thing is the rest of the song is just as good! I’ve heard the Gofer Mine bar, don’t quote me but I thInk Eminem uses almost the same exact bar put the same way in Dre’s Medicine Man, if not for that it’d be a perfect song to me and even not liking that bar it’s as close to a perfect song as I’ve heard in a long time

Despite whatever one else will say, just know that I missed ya. Low key my favorite channel so far, been riding with you guys since logic soul foods. I do feel that flow though for the chorus sounds like it's from, Where ya at by Future.
