The older JD got, the better he was on all of his various recitations. Toward the end of JD’s life, his baritone, Ed Hill, said JD knew his time on earth was winding down, and he wanted each concert to strike the heartstrings of each person he could reach with the good news of the redemption through the power of Christ. That Jesus loves to forgive us & accept us who we are. To put away our shortcomings and failures of yesterday. JD got more genuine as time past.

J.D. Sumner was one of my parents oldest life long friends . This is one of my favorite stories growing up hearing. J. D. could make people laugh , But when it came to winning souls or helping someone , He would become vary serious !!!

The meaning of this song is that no matter what we have been through, God Will touch us and make a change even the most old and worn person when the Master's hand touches us it makes all the difference in the World!

AMEN. This is so true. J.D Summers will always be with us. I know him and George are up there just having a good old time. May they Rest In Peace. I know that when the good LORD calls for me and I can cross that river to be with him, I will be able to meet J.D and George. GOD bless you all. AMEN.

Beautifully told. This was the song that broke me, as I recovered from surgery. I watched the video of this poem,,and sobbed , and sobbed , knowing I WAS that battered old violin. I gave my life to my Master that day ❤️

@@isabellaterry5062 The person you're referring to characterized himself as a simple son of men, not of gods, and said that any of us could know what he knew. It was Saul of Tarsus who invented the religion, in Greek terms because Greek was more popular than Aramaic in the world, based loosely on the words of a teacher he had never met, for the purpose of being the High Priest of a church.

@@gnomicmama116 That's interesting to know! I deleted my original comment because it seems unnecessary. However, I was referring to the meaning of the original poem, which was written by Myra Brooks Welch. The overall meaning of the poem is about how the life of a sinner can change when touched by God's hand, and the worth of a soul. There's been a lot of different takes and renditions of the poem in the last century from various individuals.
