G pronounced like it is in 'go', and Geils rhymes with miles. J. Geils Band was a blues-rock band out of (EDIT: Someone corrected me saying it's Boston, NOT Detroit, much appreciated!) Their best work was on Atlantic Records throughout the 70s. "Freeze Frame" was their first pop album success after moving to EMI-America Records. The title track and "Centerfold" were the band's last hits. (Btw, their first EMI hit was "Love Stinks") Singer Peter Wolf went solo and had another pop hit with "Lights Out".

Also Peter was married to Bonnie and Clyde actress Faye Dunaway. When they divorced, Peter wrote their hit, “ Love Stinks”. J. Geils was the guitar player.

@IggyStardust19674 жыл бұрын
@@yomogami4561 Yeah, that was her alright. She took a bit of extra pride in the fact that she was the first VJ to appear in a music video. You know, doing some Googling, a lot of people ARE claiming it wasn't her. If that's really the case, then she took credit back then for something she didn't do. I was a teenager when MTV came on the air(in fact, I had been channel surfing and caught Video Killed the Radio Star as it was playing for the first time on the channel. I literally stopped changing channels and watched that video, somehow knowing that I was seeing something I'd never seen before that would change my life), and watched it religiously until it got to be more "reality shows" than music. I would literally watch from the time I got home from school until the wee hours of the morning(had to pay for an extra cable box back then, and they weren't cheap). I very much recall her talking about it during her show(the hours she was the VJ) whenever the video came on. I am going to do some digging, because I always loved her as a VJ. While I don't expect people to be perfect, if I find out for sure that she lied to us, that will tarnish her name with me forever. Not that a liar would care, though.... You know, now I *REALLY* wish I still had all of those VHS tapes from back then.... When my wife and I moved into a much smaller house, I had to leave all but a very small number behind as trash. No exaggeration, I had over 5000 video tapes, and brought less than a dozen with me(not counting VHS-C camcorder tapes). I know I had hundreds of tapes I recorded from MTV. I have loved the format of music videos since I first discovered them. Hell, on iTunes, I have well over 300 of them now. Sorry for the long reply, but I do hope it gives some insight into why I made the claim. I will look into this further.

Insane Insane Again and Piss On The Wall are killer deep cut songs from this same album.

When this was on heavy rotation on MTV, we'd watch the video just to see the snare drum clip (and of course, the dancing girls too - at the time, MTVJ Martha Quinn said a viewer had made a comment that the short dark haired girl was her - wasn't ) A short while later, singer Peter Wolf tried to go solo, he bombed and the band faded out as well. I also had their "Bloodshot" album, lots of great bluesy rock songs (e.g. "Give It To Me"), worth checking out.

Was a J. Geils Band fan way before this - saw them in concert in the 70s when they were still a "blues band" - sort of the same era as their "Live Full House" album. Always a great band, and a lot of fun.

I'm not giving up! Going to keep recommending this one. A HUGELY underrated duet with KENNY LOGGINS AND STEVE PERRY (JOURNEY) CAN YOU IMAGINE? It is called "Don't Fight It!" It is a fun filled tune that takes off fast and don't let up! I know you'll love it!

This song is an absolute banger, just so much fun to listen to, with a great story in the lyrics to boot.

You need to go back with this band, more bluesy rock, “First I Look At The Purse”, song about a male gold digger!! Great stuff!

Their best album is their live album, "Full House", which is loaded with classic Chicago-style blues. Jamel would LOVE it! The live version of "First I Look at the Purse" is a killer!

Really? I had no idea that Smokey wrote that!

I was in first grade when this song came out, and I absolutely loved it, listening to it on the radio almost every day. I had no idea what it was really about as a kid, but the energy and the hook in the song were too fun! And the “Na-Na’s” at the end! Lots of memories watching you watch it for the first time.

Hahaha. I remember being about 6 or 7 in the early 80s and going to roller rinks on the weekends, and this song playing. It wasnt til I was much older that I realized what he was singing about.

Not sure if this helps, but it's pronounced Guile like the military character in Street Fighter 2. Fun fact, Peter Wolf is the singers name and J. Geils is the lead guitarist.

I'm old enough to remember how hot this song was in the winter of '81 and into the spring of '82. HS days in Phoenix cruising around MetroCenter and every Friday night at Golf 'n Stuff. The title track to this album (Freeze-Frame) and Flamethrower are also killer tracks. J Geils Band is simply good music and fun to listen to as well.
