J. Haydn: "Serenade" /// Pan flute & Piano ///

Originally this "serenade" is second movement (2. Andante cantabile) from String Quartet in F major, Op. 3, No. 5. Actually is it even Haydn's own composition? It was long thought to be by Franz Joseph Haydn, but the whole quartet is now attributed to another scholar: Roman Hoffstetter, a Benedictine monk who admired the famous Austrian composer almost to the point of imitation. Hoffstetter wrote "everything that flows from Haydn's pen seems to me so beautiful and remains so imprinted on my memory that I cannot prevent myself now and again from imitating something as well as I can."
Haydn is an Austrian composer of the Classical period. He was instrumental in the development of chamber music such as the piano trio and his contributions to musical form have earned him the epithets "Father of the Symphony" and "Father of the String Quartet".
