There's actual footage of those jaegers training in Lockstedt, Germany in 1916. There's also a museum and an anniversary held there for them. Ironically they were still in Germany for the most parts when Finland's independence was declared, but they did arrive to Finland in the beginning of the 1918 to fight in the civil war on the White side. There were also some, who would have sided with the Reds, but the Reds didn't trust them. Here's that footage and couple of relating videos: "Jääkärit väreissä, Lockstedt 1916", "Lockstedter Lager - Der Finnentag in Hohenlockstedt" and "The Finnish Jägers In World War 1 I THE GREAT WAR On The Road". In this one Mannerheim greets them in Vaasa, Finland: "Mannerheim ottaa vastaan jääkäreiden paraatin 1918". Something on the Finland's National Epic 'Kalevala' and Kullervo: "Infinite Text The Kalevala: Epic of the Finnish People" and "Kalevala - the story of Kullervo". Also, those jaegers arrived to Finland on an icebreaker Sampo, which name comes from Kalevala: "The myth of the Sampo- an infinite source of fortune and greed - Hanna-Ilona Härmävaara". Some possibly interesting videos from the era-as governments are being overthrown again. The movie 'Reds' was partly filmed in Finland: "Dokumenttiprojekti: Oskari Tokoi (1873 - 1963) YLE TV2 2.9.2009", "An Uncommon View 12 6 2023 Oskar Tokoi Remembered November 2023", "Helsinki - The Early 1900's ", "Tampere 1900 luvun alussa. Väri.", "The Week In History Ep. 2 - Finn's in Sointula", "Eugen Schauman - A Real Hero", "The Story of Eugen Schauman - Man Who Killed a Dictator in the Name of Love", "Miksi Tampereella on Lenin-museo?, "[4K, 60fps, colorized] Tarmo icebreaker (1907) arriving Helsinki", "Italian Hall Disaster 1913 | Footprints of Stampede Disaster", "How the Finns became White (in America)", "Tampere 1916 väreissä", ""Terve Ukraina!" - Finnish Song about Ukraine [Sanat] + [English translation]", "Lenin's Escape Train | Locomotive Monument at Finland Railway Station in St. Petersburg", "Lenin's arrival", "Vladimir Lenin, Russian revolutionary, documentary footages (HD1080)", "Reds - Trailer 1981", "Nikolas Palonen Tarmo 1918", "Suomen vapaussota 1918", "How the Reds LOST the Finnish Civil War (1918)". "Sidney Reilly | The Most Legendary Secret Agent in History", "Terroristien pesä Suomi ja taistelu Venäjästä 1918-1939" and "Voices of the Region: Cleveland Cliffs, Virginia Downtown, Gus Hall Book". Today, relating to icebreakers: "US, Canada, and Finland Unite to Build Advanced Arctic Icebreakers" and "US, Canada, and Finland Unite to Build Advanced Arctic Icebreakers". A relating Finnish march is this 'Suomi-marssi' aka 'Marsch aus Petersburg', which was composed in 1837. It became popular when the Finnish Guards' Rifle Battalion was practicing with the Russian Imperial Guard in St. Petersburg the same year. Nicholas I gifted the march to Frederick William III of Prussia. Apparently it was also Wilhelm II's favorite march. The march is still used by the Bundeswehr. Through Prussian influence to the Pacific War, it's also used by some brigades of the Chilean army: "Suomi-marssi (Marsch aus Petersburg)", "Petersburger Marsch [German march]" and "Marsch aus Petersburg 18.03.2019".

@@JustAnotherArmyVet The Kalevala is a 19th-century epic poem compiled by Elias Lönnrot from Finnish and Karelian oral folklore and mythology. It's considered the national epic of Finland and is one of the most significant works of Finnish literature. The Kalevala tells an epic story about the creation of the Earth, the adventures of various heroes, and the conflicts between the people of Kalevala and the land of Pohjola. The poem is composed of 50 folk stories, or "runos (poems)," and is written in a unique meter called kalevalameter, characterized by alliteration and a specific rhythm. The Kalevala has played a crucial role in shaping Finnish national identity and has influenced various works of literature, including J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth mythology.

The Revenge of Kullervo comes from painter Akseli Gallen-Kallela painting "The curse of Kullervo", 1899, inspired by Kalevala finnish mythology. The guy lives a tragic orphan life, his whole family is murdered. Finally his evil step mom even bakes a stone inside his lunch bread and it breaks the knife he got from his real father, only memory he has of him. Furious, he gathers up an army out of wolves and bears that eat the stepmom. It is a metaphor how the finnish were not too keen on the 1899 "February manifest" by Russia that basicly tried to move legistlation power to Russia and say finns can´t have an army. Alexander the first had promised in 1809 no such things would be done and Russia would respect finnish autonomy. This started the road to full independence. So a good mythology-propaganda-tie in, at the right time, for sure!

As somebody else said, the story of Kullervo comes from the national epic Kalevala, so it's ancient myth that was passed down orally until finally being compiled into a book as Finnish nationalism began to arise in the Russian empire. Kullervo is a rather unique part of the Kalevala though, his story is depressing and tragic to say the least. Parents are murdered and he's enslaved, eventually chases after revenge, causing his sister's death before getting his vengeance and killing himself. There's no joy or happy ending in that story, just tragedy, the cruelty of fate and despair.

2:05 The line "We will rise like the revenge of Kullervo is an reference to old Finnish mythological story. Growing up in the aftermath of the massacre of his entire tribe, he comes to realise that the same people who had brought him up, the tribe of Untamo, were also the ones who had slain his family. As a child, he is sold into slavery and mocked and tormented further. When he finally runs away from his masters, he discovers surviving members of his family, only to lose them again. He seduces a girl who turns out to be his own sister, having thought his sister dead. When she finds out it was her own brother who seduced her, she commits suicide. Kullervo becomes mad with rage, returns to Untamo and his tribe, destroys them using his magical powers, and commits suicide.

During my military service as a Finnish Border Guards Jaegers Sissi "under officer" I went to the Border Guards "lower officer" school (AUK167) in Immola, Finnish Karelia. We held a military parade honoring the day when the winter war came to an end. We sang this exact song when we where marching and the school had also invited a lot of winter war veterans (that was something they did on a yearly basis) , where two of them had the highest Finnish military medal, called the Mannerheim Knights Cross on their chest. Back then, in the end of the 1980:s and the start of the 1990:s, wasn't the Winter War known around the world and it was mostly we Finns that knew what had happened. But the MOST amazing thing was that Simo "Belaja Smert /White Death" Häyhä was also one of them VIP guests that we marched past singing this song (all the VIP veteran with all their medals shining on their chest was also singing this same song toghether with us) wearing our brand new Finnish winter camo and the new Finnish RK95/(AK47 assault Rifle) That was ABSOLUTELY my proudest moment of my whole life and still is 😢😢... Simo Häyhä was absolutely not known anywhere but in Finland back then, and we Finns knew all about him. I had also the honor to shortly speak with him after the parade, because I belive he was interested to know why I had joined one of the toughest military units, and he also wanted to know why I was in the Finnish military all toghether, having in mind that I was living in Sweden back then, and would have been able to join the Swedish military instead. I told him that basically all my relatives on my fathers side had been part of the Finnish Border Guards Jaegers (Sissi/Skiing Units) and including my father and grandfather (fought in the winter war, continuation war and the Lapland war). We (my fathers relatives) lived only some 5km from the Border to Soviet Union but today it's the border to Russia. My grandfather had been part of the Sissi units that attacked the Murmansk Railroad aswell, during the continuation war. But this moment will always be the proudest moment in my life... 😅 This place was not far away from the Border crossing in Finnish Karelia to Soviet Union. They must have heard us singing 😂😂😂😂

It was not performed 1918 in bolshevik Helinski or Helsinskiev. Music, Jean Sibelius (also known as the composer of Finlandia) lyrics, Sam Sihvo. @@riikkapitkanen3666 thanks for your insight. I did my research for this song. I said the information that the Internet gave me. “Sibelius wrote the "Jäger March" originally for men's chorus and piano, and later arranged it for men's chorus and symphony orchestra. The first public performance of Jäger March was in Helsinki on 19 January 1918 by the choir Akademiska sångföreningen, led by Olof Wallin.“ That is from Wikipedia. I also saw that somewhere else on the Internet as well. 💙🙏. With that being said, apologies for mispronouncing Helinski.

We have people exclaiming a lot of hostile propaganda and speaking of running away. Unfortunately we've had it so nice for such a long time, many have forgotten about what made us great. Still, according to polls I myself have done, almost 70% of the population would stay in Finland if conflict were to arise, and this included non combatants like young people not quite old to fight yet, and the elderly. I guess if it were to happen, we would again, like many times in our history, lose a few cowards.
