Very informative. Few things that I would like to add. Instrument of accession was signed between Raja Hari Singh & Mountbatten. But J&K didn’t sign the Instrument of Merger and that is the reason why Article 370 was made. As per J&K constitution, Part 2, sec 3: State of J&K is and shall be an integral part of Indian Union. The same as per the Constitution of India.

Nope, Instrument of Accession couldn't have been signed between Raja Hari Singh and Mountbatten. Because , Instrument of Accession was the agreement which allowed Princely states to join the Indian Union, but Mountbatten was British Governor of the Crown. So if Maharaja Hari Singh had signed an agreement with Mountbatten then it would have ment J&K will be part of British Crown. Which is absolutely absurd thing to imagine. And there was nothing called Instrument of Merger.
