Matt, you succeeded with this interview. I have been a Dinosaur Jr fan since "You're Living All Over Me", but I have NEVER heard J Mascis talk this much and how relaxed he is here. No monosyllables, no one word replies. This is great.

It's really nice that his Squier Jazzmaster is one of the best affordable guitars. When they discontinued it for a while, the prices of the second-hand ones really started to climb. As well as J Mascis himself, I've seen lots of other great indie players rocking the JMJM. I think Kurt Vile too even. I like that Troy Van Leuwen Jazzmaster Matt is rocking too. I think of it as the Ron 'Anchorman' Burgandy Jazzmaster. Sarah Lipstate plays one too.

During the pandemic, my girlfriend got me the last available J Mascis Jazzmaster in Europe, and I'm still not worthy...And 1 & a half years ago, I stood right in front of J - for my birthday - and got my ears blown to the bottom of my soul - and tears were flowing down my face -- then the moshpit kicked me into reality - where tears mixed with sweat, until no one could tell the difference. Eternal love! - Another most beautiful video, Matt!

I've never seen J so garrulous in an interview before. It was so cool to see him smiling and laughing! What I'd really love to know is, how did he learn to find his way around the fretboard so fluidly? As wild and hairy as his leads are, he always seems to land on the right notes. Doesn't strike me as a music theory guy, so I'd love to know how he does it.

With all due respect and credit to what he does, I feel like he’s such a great guitar player because he isn’t that hyper practiced technical guy. He’s like the king of rough guitar playing. He was in a band too. His entre however is being a rich kid insider. They will not admit this of course. It’s the only explanation. J does not shoot the shit with regular people who are fans. Unlike Ron Asheton, you could call Ron at his mom’s, he would talk to you. Of course J got to hang with Ron & learn the stooge way of playing all those songs, this was because Ron was a cool person. J Mascis tells Murph what to play. Do u think Ron told Scott what to do? J also has a person in charge of managing his legacy. This is the main reason you see dino jr in it’s original line up. J knows original line ups are the real sh!t

he was in Chavez for a long time and they were a fairly well known indie band (and they're fucking awesome)@@crypttonite. Where do you get this rich kid crap from? Even if true, it doesn't diminish the fact that he is a great musician in his own right. Also played on the ric rubin johnny cash records as a session guitar player. Doesn't matter if you're rich or not if you can't play.

On the note of the Range Master pedal, it was Rory Gallagher when he was in Taste that made that sound first and that was mid 60’s. Story goes he was playing a gig in London and the guys from Queen went to see him and they weren’t famous yet. Then after the show Brian May just went for it and walked up to Rory as he was undoing his rig and packing up and straight up asked him how do you get that sound. Rory being the down to earth guy he was said I use this Range Master pedal running through a VOX AC-30 high boost Model and no other FX’s. He even showed him his settings he used. So Brian with his Red Special guitar with three single coils like a strat and he already had the high boost AC-30 so he went and bought a Range Master pedal, so between all of that and him using a coin as a pic you get the Queen sound. I mean even though Rory who was a guitar god in his own right and helped contribute to Mays sound let’s not forget that May is is a brilliant genius so that helped a lot for him getting that sound. I think this is a cool story and shows how small the world can be. Two of the top 10 electric guitar players of all time. J. is arguably on that list as well! Great Video y’all.
