I'm so sorry for yout loss. :( It really hits different when you're mourning someone, doesn't it? I hope you've heard Clamavi de Profundis' version. They set this to tune and sang it beautifully.

This audio makes me feel so relaxed. The beautiful poetry, Tolkien’s passionate voice, the clock in the background ticking away… could listen to this for the rest of my life.

When listening to recordings of educated people born in the late 19th century like Tolkien, I always wonder about the very different dialect, especially that they speak not only very rhotic accent, but that they actually roll the r with the tip of the tongue. Was this common back than or is it a specific theatrical accent used for the recording? When did the pronunciation of educated English change from this to modern RP?

Such a poignant song for a great warrior. My heart often cried for Boromir. His love and pride for his country was his downfall because the bring knew this. Please don't harshly judge Boromir because he gave his life defending Merry and Pippin. It was his attack on Frido that gave Frodo the courage to do what he was afraid to do. In the end Boromir was redeemed

Why does he read this quickly???

He reads everything quickly.

Because he wrote it and can pretty much do what ever he wants, because he is Tolkien. Also, his ability with language hailed from a vast knowledge in classics and ancient verse, this informed the timbre and metre of his speech so that it is akin to a waterfall, in my mind.

As Matthew Tidy accurately states, he could do whatever he wanted, since he wrote it. But tbh, I really don't like it. It feels like it robs the audience of a chance to immerse themselves in the depth of the words, and just sprints from one end to the other. Maybe it was popular to record audiobooks in that manner back in the day? Any captain?
