I wished those owls would quit their hooting! From the time Milda got up and flew off, to the time she pulled her eaglets out to defeather them... just only 2 hours and 45 min. The underfed chicks just couldn't hang on any longer, in the cold wind and snow. Milda returning without food... This clutch was doomed, the moment Raimis disappeared. Still, thankful to have watched the 2 eggs hatch (with joy), and follow the saga of Mom and Mr C with hope. This beautiful story continues.

I THINK MILDA KNOWS HER NEW COMPANIAN MR. C WOULD NOT HELP HER TO RAISE THE CHICKS. IT'S BETTER FOR HER TO RESTART IT ALL OVER WITH A NEW RELATIONSHIP. After she came back, she defeather her eaglets but I didn't see her eat them. yet. She to me display anger and disappointment when she was defeathering them. I doubt the last egg will hatch after today. And I hope Mr C leaves her alone and goes away. Just how I see things and feel.

After Mr. C flew off with the little piece of food I was thinking he just isn't mature enough yet. I can't help but wonder if Milda didn't deliberately leave the nest knowing that she wouldn't be able to provide for them. Of course we will never know why, but she more or less would have to provide by herself since Mr. C is not ready yet. So as sad as this has turned out, I guess it was meant to be. Is this nest not near any kind of water? I've seen this happen last year at another nest of Golden Eagles. Not enough food. I wouldn't be surprised if she consumes the last egg. Survival of the fittest. I don't know how these eagles survive with limited food. We just have to trust the eagles. RIP little ones.

What a great mother, she was so hungry she allowed her chicks (who looked very healthy) die then doesn't bother to eat them or at least not right away. And I'm sure when she did eat them it wasn't enough to last an hour yet she somehow survived the season with "no food"

The conditions for survival were very close and the bad weather of these days also played its part. You told us it would be better if the eggs didn't hatch, and you were right. This is nature. It was however interesting to observe the behaviors of Milda and the new male. Even if the last egg hatches, I don't think the baby will have better luck than his brothers.

Am kind of upset about this I was rooting so hard for Milda but it wasn't ment to be. She need to just leave this area and I know of course she isn't but it would be nice if she moved close to a large body of water so she can have access to near by food source. But poor Raimis legacy ends here. Take your sleep little eaglets and soar high with your father.

Not surprised. They either were going to die of starvation because the male is useless and steals their food, or the cold. And he didnt even incubate so Milda could find food. Sad turn of events either way.

The miracle of this story was shortlived but taught us so much, so many unexpected and new aspects to WTE behaviour never observed before. Sincere condolences to all at LDF for this tragic loss, but life goes on and nature does what's best, here's to Chips and Mildas brave efforts and hopefully a better 2022 🦅♥️🦅

The logic of birds protecting themselves over their offspring only works if they are sometimes able to raise offspring. If they pick a bad nest area, or a lousy mate, this will just keep happening again

Я с первого дня обратила внимание, что родитель не приносил рыбу, а в основном птиц. Хотя у орланов белохвостых рыба составляет основу рациона. Какой плохой год...😭

@@olgakomarova4820 в этом гнезде произошла большая трагедия, сначала пропал отец семейства, Милда сидела на яйцах, скорее всего орлан погиб в драке с другими птицами, никто точно не знает как он погиб. К гнезду прибился другой самец по имени Чип, но он молодой, неопытный и не смог обеспечить едой гнездо, еды практически не было, поэтому самка стала отличаться с гнезда на пару часов, было холодно и птенцы голодные замёрзли, самец прилетел, но это не его птенчик и, поэтому он их не грел, так они и погибли, природа не даёт жизни, когда погибает один из родителей,жестоко

@@1500-j6v Это давно уже случилось, 27 марта видели отца семейства Раймиса в гнезде, но вечером он исчез и больше не появлялся. Неделю Милда сидела на яйцах голодная, но не покидала гнездо. 4 апреля только она отправилась на поиски еды. Очень жалко Раймиса, он был прекрасный, во всех смыслах.

@@1500-j6v да там было несколько орлов, и самцы, и пара. Все летали и сидели около гнезда, но Милда не поддавалась на провокации и не дралась с ними, просто пыталась отпугивать их. И один самец остался, стал даже с Милдой издавать предупреждающие крики если появлялись чужаки. Но по оперению спецы говорят он молодой еще, никто не уверен, что у него было гнездо свое и детки. И он стал помогать Милде высиживать яйца, она могла улетать и поесть где-то. Это очень важно, найти хорошего партнера.

The male abandoned the chicks due to immaturity. The female could not raise the chicks on her own - sitting on the chicks to keep them warm (and alive) while starving herself (as well as the babies) was not an option. Way to go Dad.
