Perfect pace for my practicing, thank you so much for inspiring me. Got the Prelude and the Minuets 1 and 2 down, it remains this Allemande, the Courant, the Sarabande (my personal favorite! ❤️) and the Gigue. With my excellent teacher and your excellent videos, I plan to nail everything down and making a little private recital for friends. Enjoying this process very much! Thank you for being so inspiring! Your playing is precise, always keeping the same tempo, and the notes are precisely in tune. Great teacher! 👏👏👏

Brilliant! I’m trying to learn this one now. I’m getting stuck with smooth bow changes on the notes that I am choosing not to slur. My cello teacher is patiently trying to explain how to do it. I’m really trying. Watching your slower videos is helping to make sense of it all. Tell me and I kinda glaze over. Show me, and I tend to get it eventually. I’m enjoying your channel. Thanks for the great videos.

Thank you so much for posting this video. I have just started learning this piece and I'm finding it kind of tricky, maybe because of the rhythm and because the phrases seem so long. I would love to have a video even a little bit slower, like quarter speed. Thank you for all your videos. Большое спасибо!

okay, so what is the proper tempo for an allemande like this, which is in cut time? I've heard 82 BPM, but is that the quarter notes or the half notes? if it's the half notes then the 16th notes have to be awfully fast, right?

Cellopedia thanks! Don’t be sorry, it’s simply my perspective on the piece. I think even prime Yo Yo was too slow on this one as well. I interpret it as a movement of moving on from heart break and catharsis, not the introspection and premeditation demonstrated in your style. Make me feel the chaos in the harmony ❤️

Nate Dog. Lemme holler at you for a sec. It's widely known that this Allemande is intended by Bach to be slow, serene, and reflective, which is part of the reason it's followed by a Courante in the Suite. Do not forget that every movement in this suite is a different style of dance. If you look at the context of the Prelude and the Courante, that will provide you with more evidence that a contrast in tempo, erring on the slower side, is most likely intended. If you want to have a discussion about the validity of interpreting away from the composer's intent, or shoving modern preference into a 300 year old piece, then you should do so with respect to the fact that this is actually closer to an authentic performance than Rostropovich's. Faster is not better. Check yourself before you disrespect yourself.
