1715 vollendete J. S. Bach seinen ersten Zyklus von Kirchenkantaten in Weimar. Seine Ernennung zum Konzertmeister war an die Bedingung geknüpft, alle vier Wochen eine Kantate für den jeweiligen Sonntag zu komponieren. Damit begann eine intensive Schaffensperiode, die in den späteren Kantaten-Jahrgängen von Leipzig seine Vollendung fand.

In der Konzertreihe Cantate um 1715 wird dieser Idee folgend monatlich eine Bachkantate als Hauptwerk aufgeführt. Gegenübergestellt wird eine weitere Kantate der barocken Tradition. Zwei Lesungen geben wie im liturgischen Gebrauch den thematischen Rahmen vor - zum einen der Evangeliumstext, der Bach als Vorlage seiner Kantate diente, zum anderen eine zeitgenössische Lesung, die sich assoziativ mit dem Thema befasst. Dazwischen schaffen kleinere instrumentale und vokale Werke Raum zur Kontemplation.​

Singing Bach without vibrato is incredibly brave, almost to the point of being a bit stupid. It is so easy to disguise pitch imperfections and create richness with a bit of vibrato that it just makes sense to include. If this is to be done, the singer's intonation, timbre, and control has to absolutely spot on, since the voice is so exposed when singing without vibrato. This, is exactly what has been done by the alto Alicia Grünwald here. This is without a doubt the best rendition of "Wo zwei und drei" I've heard!

Au sujet du chant sans vibrato je suis entièrement d'accord avec vous. La version hollandaise est peut être meilleure (NBS). Alicia chante très juste, mais on ne sent pas pas sa connexion avec le monde divin, c'est trop plaît.

I fully agree. However, you must also live with your time I suppose. This dry way of playing the violin is called 'baroque', and there is little you can do against it nowadays. It has become the only recognised way of playing Bach's music.

The gorgeous sinfonia was taken too fast for me, so I began to feel that the performance was undernourished, but this impression dispersed when the singers entered. What a glorious alto!

To my ears, an excellent interpretation of this beloved cantata, from singers and the rest of musicians. I especially liked the soprano and contralto singing their arias. Although i liked Alex Potter and other fine male altos, I much prefer women Altos, especially in Bach.
