Webern Trio Frankfurt Akemi Mercer-Niewöhner Violin, Dirk Mercer-Niewöhner - Viola, Ulrich Horn Cello, Live in Frankfurt, 2014 HR Concert Hall Produced by Boguslaw Furtok
This is a triumph for Bach, Sitkovetsky and the Werbern Trio. I might even throw in a big thankyou to Mr Goldberg and his insomnia.

Insomnia of Hermann Carl von Keyserlingk, not Goldberg who was the one to play the variations

I cannot imagine a more compelling argument for the string trio, for this fine string trio, or for this extraordinary piece of music. I was transfixed by the sheer sound of it from the beginning, and a bit sad to come to the end. Yes, the sound engineer also gets highest marks, for sure, but let's pause simply to be grateful that musicians such as this are among us. What a gift!

It sounds like Gounod's Ave Maria.
@TomCloyd Жыл бұрын
@@Piflaser You're just a little mixed up, but headed in the right direction! Gounod's Ave Maria is a melody superimposed over an arrangement of Bach's Prelude #1 from the Well-Tempered Clavier. It's interesting that hearing this arrangement of the Goldberg this other Bach composition jumped into your mind! You may be interested in this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ave_Maria_(Bach/Gounod)
@Piflaser Жыл бұрын
It would never been written in this form, without b.c. It sounds not baroque but like Gounod. Better to listen to Scott Ross or Alan Curtis who made the original.
I have enjoyed a blessed Wednesday afternoon in Philadelphia listening to these wonderful musicians. Thanks for this performance.

Like many others, I'm deeply in love with this great work of Bach's. I'm quite familiar with the harpsichord and piano versions. But, believe it or not, this is the first time I hear (and watch) the string-trio arrangement. What a breath-taking experience for me! It's out of this world!

WOW! This arrangement by Dimitri Sitkovetsky really brings out the best. These 3 musicians are superb & collectively they've created a multi-faceted jewel of a performance. I've read Bach wrote a musical "Unified Field Theory" with this & they've provided proof. [No wonder Glenn Gould did all that humming.]

The work really blooms in this format - three lines can sing, sustain notes, choose gradations in dynamics - I'll stop there. Want to bet Bach himself arranged a version for trio, maybe left it in a taxi?

The tempi throughout are probably the best I've ever heard. Slower than Gould's 50's recording but not as slow as his 80's.

@andrewlee13363 жыл бұрын
my only complaint is that viola, by its physical nature, cannot project as well as the violin. The viola here is overwhelmed by the violin and the cello.
