Als Kind sang ich im Kinder- und im Kirchenchor Herrenhausen. Dann spielte ich Klavier, Trompete und Kirchenorgel. Es wäre mir eine Ehre, in diesem Chor singen zu dürfen. Ein großes Kompliment auch an den Dirigenten, Rudolf Lutz!

The "brisker" tempo provided by Lutz on this piece is a refreshing departure from other iterations of this piece performed frequently. Most informative is a 90 minute lecture that Lutz gave on this performance the afternoon (before) of the recital. Unfortunately for English only speakers, it is in German -- it can be found in the internet. Kudos to this great performance.

Wunderschöne und tiefempfundene Aufführung dieser perfekt komponierten Kirchenkantate mit gut harmoniserten Stimmen des ausgezeichneten Chors und herrlichen Stimmen dreier genialen Solisten sowie gut vereinigten und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen aller Originalinstrumente. I think this is the original style of delivery. I also don't like it very much compared to the Netherlands Bach Society's more stately and graceful delivery, but we have to remember, Bach and audiences back then had a literally baroque, not classical taste. Contemporary renditions of Bach suffer from classicizing, making him cleaner than was both possible and preferred back in the 17th century.

Oboeist looks like Guus Hiddink, erstwhile Aussie Soccer coach. I'm sure Guus couldn't play a note, but never underestimate anybody, after all, the sky's the limit under SOLI DEO Gloria! The oboeist reminds me in performance of my Seminary colleague Jack Shepherd, 22 years my senior, now having shuffled off to his immortal reward. Jack used to enjoy warming up his reed on his neck then giving the reed a blast, before remarking that it sounded like a sick duck. Requiescat in Pace, Jack. He made his name as principal oboeist with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. He ended his career in a Lutheran pulpit.... SHepparton and other places with the support of his wife Lois. I sang "Mein Freund ist mein" with a dear friend who later succumbed to the ravages of breast cancer. Not sure my wife appreciated this duet as much as I do, but for me this is great template for any marriage......
