I’ve been passionate for Bach’s music since I was thirteen (31 years) and never heard BWV168. Testimony to his output indeed. The opening aria’s wonderful rhythm and harmonic clusters rock my spirit. What is it about his oeuvre that is so important in the 21st century, to so many lives? It is a gravitas of mind and heart. Music is so far beyond the mere mechanics; an art impossible to describe in a literary translation. All I know is I would be much the less richer without J.S. Bach.

The language used in the cantata, namely Tue Rechnung (give acccount), Donnerwort (Thunderword), Kapital, Interessen, Schulden (capital, interests, debt) and that this all be linked to Gods ledger (Buch), does not really fit all too well into the common notion that Bach is all about religion, but all those terms (and maybe Bach) certainly it is about how similar phenomena appear in different areas of life….

Who is the lady who plays the oboe ? She never gets a mention in some of these glorious,genius Bach Cantatas !!!!!!!! Thank you for your reply. I have spent some time reading the references you have sent me. The oboe is a baroque oboe and if things go well I will see if I can get to Appenzeller in the summer. I have subscribed.

I like the way one of the female musicians composes herself to such emotional music with such class. When I hear this melody I sense a moment of urgency and expediency. The music captures Bach no doubt.

Obviously *superb* as usual! Thank you for this marvelous sharing: I wonder how Maestro Lutz can obtain such a perfection in a public recording. This implies a huge work of preparation: all performers, singers as well as instrumentists (for instance, the cellist solo, Mrs. Amrein), are so perfect...! It's amazing.

Yep, we young people are listening on KZbin! Besides, from the looks of where this chapel happens to be, it seems like only old people live up in those Swiss mountains. The Swiss countryside is not known to be a place that attracts the millennials and other city-obsessed youth. I've been to my share of Bach concerts in New York City--lots of young people there! :D

In the bass aria what is the registration of the organ that Rudolf is playing? I can't distinguish any sound from it, but from what bits I can see it almost appears to me he's performing the same notes as the harpsichordist
