The aria for alto, violin and basoon is a beautiful lullaby... This man is absolutely impossible... Thanks, Bach.

I know I’m repeating myself - yet again(!!) - and I can image a lot of long-lasting, heartfelt and sincere fans of the Bachstiftung - unter der Leitung von maestro Lutz - feel the same way : Wow! What a technically exquisite and equally astonishingly moving performance ! There really isn’t one hiccup in this entire cycle of utter beauty !! A standing ovation for all these utterly talented performers … as well as three cheers for the amazing sound engineers, bringing us this perfection in an amazing technical quality !!

The more the soloists hold back the vibrato the more the beauty of the sonority allowed to come through. Though on occasion it is being used successfully as an embellishment.

Esta cantata es verdaderamente una de las tantas joyas que Bach nos ha dejado. El primer movimiento provoca una sensación hipnotizante en mí. La introducción con las flautas dulces y los oboes es bellísima. Herzlichen Dank, Herr Lutz.

over the years with my classical guitar studies, I play more and more Bach. I try to mix in modern works like the Britten Nocturnal and others, but always go back to the Bach. There is a reward when one plays Bach. You do not need to recognize it on the page, one can easily see it in these Bachstiftung videos on the faces of the performers.

wow in my opinion one of the greatest cantatas. How about you made interviews with the choir singers? We have been watching familiar faces through all these years wonder their opinions about the music of J.S. Bach. It will be fun to watch those videos like some other channels do.

I agree with @lordchameleon2650. I too have been watching instrumentalists and singers through the years. I'd be interested in hearing their thoughts about performing so much Bach. To play Bach well is difficult, to play Bach musically is even more so.

As fine as the entire performance is, I can't give enough superlatives about the soprano Ulrike Hofbauer. That aria sits high, with several difficult entrances, and the sparse accompaniment leaves the singer exposed. As with almost all Bach cantata arias for soprano, it was written for a boy. She keeps that sense of it, never adding much vibrato, but gives it a maturity and beauty I've never heard before. Brava!

Another big thank you from Melbourne! What a magical moment Bach creates in the opening chorus, with the recorders, echoed by the oboes then the strings, underpinned by the continuo, and including a couple of glorious crescendos. It just captured me. The soprano aria with the solo recorder was another wonderful movement. Thanks to Rudi and all the musicians.

From my comment on the opening section to this cantata: Wonderful interpretation. If anyone is interested, I recommend comparing with Herreweghe's and Rilling's renditions of the opening chorus of this cantata, as they all sound quite different. As expected, Herreweghe's version has a stunning sound quality. The opening section is rather slow, but this allows the music to truly 'open up' during the second ("So du einen") and third ("Alsdenn wird dein") sections. I must admit I am biased toward Herreweghe, but I was still very happy to discover Lutz's version, which is also beautiful. The music truly takes a flight at 5:46. By contrast, Rilling's version is significantly faster from the outset. I never really know what to make of his cantatas - at worst they can sound a bit robotic, but sometimes I can appreciate his uncompromising intensity. Rilling's version is much more forceful: compare the start of the "So du einen nacket siehest" in Lutz/Herreweghe and Rilling. Interestingly, Rilling does not change the tempo here, saving this instead for the "Alsdenn" part (although the tempo change is minor compared to Lutz's rendition).

Schade....
@MartinSmithMFMАй бұрын
That was because this is a uniquely prayerful ensemble. They are interpreting the divine words in the text rather than making a 'musical performance' to please. If you did not understand that, you understood little! What's amazing is that Bach can wreak so much with so little, almost a miracle of the loaves and fishes in itself. Even the unison number, which is musically bald, is there for a reason: to make us yearn for the closing Chorale - and to love it the more when it comes!
