This is my all-time favourite Bach cantata and a great performance from Peter Schreier and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau [two of my greatest interpreters of Bach`s vocal works] and of course, Karl Richter conducting the Munich Bach Orchestra and Choir.

me too, it is shockingly good, it is also coming as a surprise as the intro is so simple and flat, just exposing all subjects then boom!!! surprise at 2:15, a beautiful polyphony... it's quite a build up with pauses, a bit like Debussy unsuspecting what is unfolding and you realize.... wow

Even on modern instruments, Bach sounds frankly superbe. Glory to Bach in the Highest.

Bach sounds best on modern instruments, the vibrato-less "HIP" doesn't do justice to the music.

Bach was truly touched by the hand of God, because this, and so much of his output, is music as it must be in heaven ! I am just in awe of his unbelieveable genius. You can bathe in and be swept away by the torrent of melodious and harmonic waves of "Du Hirte Israel hore". He will never be surpassed, and there will never be another like him. Wyn
