These J.S Bach Foundation recorded performances are remarkable. Can you imagine the ways in which many younger people are going to watch these ? Becoming absorbed in such heartfelt renditions of the great master. One shudders to think what the next generation of Bach interpreters will sound like. When you think about what they are already able to learn by imbibing the quality of these.

One of the most beautiful Bach Cantatas. The aria of the Tenor "Kann ich nur Jesum mir zum Freunde machen" is a little gem. Music and spiritual meaning always current, indeed eternal. Excellent interpretation.

These wonderful performances (and BWV 105 is a particularly profound piece, right up to the final note of the last chorale) show just what is possible in an environment where you have a standing ensemble comprised of excellent and committed musicians under wise and expert leadership, not to mention a great deal of love for this music as well as goodwill towards the public that enjoys the results. In terms of the ensemble: t is the same as having a long-standing string quartet: over time, the members think and play as one. An entirely holistic approach, impossible to achieve on a one-off basis. Despite living in our apparently crumbling world we are indeed fortunate to have Bach's great vocal works performed to this standard. And I speak as someone who has also devoted a life to performing and recording Bach. I learn a great deal from Prof. Lutz and from every musician performing here with such dedication and expertise. Impossible to thank you enough for this.

When Peter Watchorn says something like this, he must be taken very seriously indeed! He is a first class Bach performer, and knows what he is talking about. His harpsichord recording of the WTC using a temperament that is arguably the one used by Bach should be in every Bach lover's music library.

"Kann ich nur Jesum mir zum Freunden machen" is one of my favourite bits of Bach. My favourite is that of Adalbert Krauss for Helmut Rilling (elsewhere on KZbin), but this is right up there with it. Lovely.

@@dschonnie Die obige Aufnahme ist sicherlich sehr gut. Jedoch ist Ihre Interpretation der Tenorarie mit besagtem holländischen Ensemble so brilliant, daß man meinen könnte, Bach habe sie speziell für Sie komponiert. Ich kämpfe jedenfalls immer aufs neue mit den Tränen, wenn ich die holländische Version höre. Aber nochmal: auch das hier ist so gut, dass es mir als blutigem musikalischen Laien, der nur mit Ach und Krach eine Fuge am Klavier zu Ende bringen kann, nicht ansteht, ein Profi-Ensemble zu kritisieren.....

Ich wüßte nicht, wo ich schon einmal eine so stimmige, ergreifende und mit solcher Spielfreude (man achte auf das Lächeln der Musiker, v.a. in der Tenor-Arie) aufgeführte Interpretation dieser Kantate gehört hätte. Es passt wirklich alles und man hat das Gefühl, dass Bach es genau so und nicht anders gewollt hat. Vielen herzlichen Dank an Prof. Lutz, dass er aus den wunderbaren Musikern diesen Klangkörper geformt hat und ebenfalls Dank an die Bachstiftung, dass Sie das Bachsche Vokalwerk in technisch einmaliger Qualität für die Nachwelt dokumentiert. Etwas annähernd Vergleichbares gibt es meiner Meinung nach nur bei der NBS. Und wenn die nicht auch außergewöhnlich wären, würde ein Daniel Johannsen dort bestimmt nicht auch singen, stimmt‘s ;-)? Das Gerichtsthema ist vielfaeltig wichtig unter Menschen. Wir muessen immer richten um zu leben. In vieler Weise treffen wir Entscheidungen ohne zu denken. Respekt - das ist soweit ich weiß die erste historisierende Einspielung, wo die überaus kritische Corno-Partie tatsächlich von einem Corno (hier Corno da tirarsi) gespielt wird. Mutmaßlich meinte Bach aber eigentlich ein Cornetto (Zink) - aber es steht tatsächlich 'Corno' im Autographen, trotz der Chromatik in der eingestrichenen Oktave und des d''' in der Fuge....

Wonderful playing by the oboist. It would be good if you could say who the soloists are because they are just as memorable as the singers, who of course are superb. There is a lady of Asian appearance at the back of the strings who is playing a very large instrument. Is that a viola? I've never seen one so big.

Je n’en suis plus là, depuis longtemps. ** entre autres, études d’analyse et composition, médaille d'or du conservatoire de Marseille, élève du grand René Bartoli ***, en Guitare, de la famille des instruments à cordes pincées.
