I lost my husband seven months ago. Fifteen minutes in to this video, I let loose and cried...for the loss of what could have been, for for the joy of what we had. I look around at the photos I have of him and smile through tears. This music is so soothing, so healing. May God be with us all as we wait to join our loved ones. Accept Jesus into your hearts, be still and know He is God! Rest in peace, Robbie...I love you!

Yeah, even though Bach did not play even the lute himself, all his music seems to be even more wonderful and pleasant to listen to in good guitar performances and transcripts. It is my understanding from reading many Bach biographies, that J.S. did definitely play the lute well enough to teach it and he did so for awhile when he first started working at one of his jobs, but he soon paid someone to teach it for him. He kept up his playing ability because he had a long and wonderful friendship with Leopold Weiss, the premiere lutenist of the time. Weiss visited Bach and stayed as a guest, during which Bach would play his latest lute suite for Leopold, who would answer with his latest. It was one of Bach's deepest and most satisfying friendships. The idea that the incomparable Chaconne is a tombeau to Barbara to denote her passing is a new idea to me that seems definitely probable. Not because it is in a minor key but because he had SO MUCH to say!

Are you sure you're not confusing lute and Latin? I've read a few biographies as well and none of them mention Bach being a lute teacher. He was however supposed to teach Latin as the director of the choir school in Leipzig but he hired someone else to do it for him. As for the friendship with Weiss, it seems to me your sources are a bit too enthusiastic. We do have a letter that tells us Weiss stayed at Bach's home for a month, and that there was music being played, but that's about it. Obviously you won't let someone that you dislike stay at your house for such a long time but from that fact alone one cannot conclude that it must have been one of Bach's 'deepest and most satisfying friendships'. Considering you read some biographies I'm a bit surprised you haven't heard about the theory that the Ciaccona was written to commemorate his late wife, because in my experience it's mentioned pretty much anytime the Ciaccona is brought up. So much so that I wouldn't be surprised if lots people think of it as "that piece Bach wrote for his dead wife". Actual evidence for the theory? Pretty much nothing at all. Except one musicologist claims there are hidden chorale melodies in the piece, all with death as a theme. I'm not saying it isn't possible but it goes against baroque esthetics and the view of a composer as a craftsman, and not so much an artist who struggles with his personal emotions.

strange... if you have a keen ear and understand the secrets of sound recording, you would not have written this post. In reverb, technically, there are always sound tails... there are none here, since the length of the sound is always adjusted by the performer. And the fullness of timbre and volume of sound is gratitude to the outstanding Russian Master, Taras Titovich! Legato is an outdated technique and should be used with great caution
