After a day without listening to Bach to later resort to this cantata, one start feeling a sensation of coming back to a pristine fountain, resembling Saint John Passion (with its almost tragic oboe sounds).

Totally correct. Richter sounds musical, but unfortunately soupy and turgid in contrast to this. I really think Richter would have changed his style if he lived now.

Wonderful cantata. Bach made beautiful use of oboes d'amore. You may also want to check out John Eliot Gardiner's recording with the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists, my personal favorite.

I would say the oboe was what distinguished his sound - and the interplay with strings - or wind and strings eg 39. He may have limited orchestration on those days before Berlioz but the Cantor had imagination.

I personally prefer the interpretation of Karl Richt with his Munich Bach-Orchestra and Choir.

Generally, I (among a good number of others, for what it's worth) find Richter's performances well-intentioned but dreadfully off the mark in terms of getting the "right" or appropriate affect. I think this performance, led by Koopman, is not only sensible and sensitive, but highly musical and quite lovely on the whole. What are some concrete things that you might mention that you don't like about it?

This interpretation is close to the authentic sound of that period and is a very musical performance. Richter was a good musician but his performance sounds really soupy and turgid now. I do think Richter would have changed style if he was living now.
