That's so great, thank you. If it were up to me, I would immediately invite you to the Bach Festival in Leipzig. Please continue with this quality and this momentum.

Eu conheço as duas Paixões de Bach: São Mateus e São João, porém desconhecia que existia uma segunda versão de 1725 da Paixão de São João. Muito interessante. Obras magníficas.

Were transverse flutes used for the 1725 version of the Passion?
@cameratavocale2 жыл бұрын
Yes, indeed the instrumentation for the 1725 performance ist almost identical to all other versions with only minor exceptions. The late 5th version, for example, calls for a contra bassoon. Our orchestra in this performance represents the size and forces used in Leipzig back then with the exception of the harpsichord, which may or may not have been used in later performances of the Passion if not in 1725.

I am sorry, but this choral doesn't belong to the Johannes Passion, it is the final choral of the first part of Mathew passion.

This choral is indeed from the St John Passion, but from the second "fassung 1725" version, distinct and different from the 1724 first performance. And part of this 1725 version was indeed also used in the later St Matthew Passion. The Netherlands Bach Society, in its All of Bach Series, has recorded both versions, BWV 245 and ad BWV 245 II, and discusses them in the "Story" section of BWV 245 II.

It is true that this hymn ends the first part of the Matthew Passion. But it is also at the beginning of the version of the St. John Passion played here! Bach later replaced it with "Herr, unser Herrscher...".

In fact, the Choral "O Mensch, bewein dein' Sünde groß" was written long before becoming a part of the Matthäuspassion. The work was most likely written originally as a single movement, although it was long-thought by some to be the first movement of an unfinished or lost cantata. The version of the Johannespassion being performed by the Camerata Vocale München in this recordning was writting in 1725. Bach wrote in total five versions of the St. John Passion. Most movements are identical or vary only slightly between each version. There are significant differences, however, including the first movement. In the second version, Bach substituted the first movement with the Choral used in our performence. There are several new arias such as the Bass Aria "Himmel Reiße, Welt erbebe" (Nr. 11). The final choral was also replaced with a German Agnus Dei, "Christe, du Lamm Gottes". If you are interested in further reading, Carus Verlag has published the complete 2nd version and has valuable information about the origins of and differences between the work's versions as a forward in the edition as well as on their website.

Yes. This is the 1725' s version, different from the 1724`s version which is the most known. By the way the first part is not a Choral, it`s a Chorus belonging as you say, to the Snt Matheus pasion BWV244.
