Just stop complaining about what he did in the beginning, it's not like he made some kind of mistake. It's his way of feeling the song, congrats to him for at least having some emotions about the piece he's going to play

I know a few people that do something like this. Most people do it to make sure they're on time. It's like some kind of inner metronome. So yes, there's nothing ridiculous about that in my opinion

Thank you for the pace of your performance in the process to better grasp the successive sounds, the technique, the rhythm and harmonies so eloquently and mathematically put through this masterpiece. It helps us and myself who are so ignorant and need to learn of Bach's music. Enough is never enough and every approach adds up to the learning adventure.

@@ruperttmls7985 Apparently it was actually intended for the "lute-harpsichord" (a keyboard instrument similar to the harpsichord, but with gut strings rather than metal strings, giving it a somewhat more lute-like sound). 🙂 I think one can see from the score that it is indeed written for two hands on a keyboard, not for a guitar or a lute; but nonetheless it is deliberately written to be like a lute piece, and can quite naturally be played on a guitar or lute (unlike a lot of piano pieces that people like to transcribe to guitar).

It is polyphony, so multiple voices playing and intermingling. A give and take, and a little rubato as you unwind the harmonies. Spending time analyzing them, reducing the progressions to bare bones then experimenting in other keys will give you a deeper relationship with the piece and how you play it will evolve over time. Connecting the ear with harmonic thought is the idea. No muscle memory or at least very little as that is anti thought. More as a dance of voices rather than this somewhat mechanical rendering, nice as it is.

Who told you that? Bach himself? Or do you just say that because your teacher said so? It is music. You can play however you like. The only one who knew how he meant it to be played has been dead for 230 years now.

You are absolutely right, I love this performance and watched it a billion times but something sounded off momentarily there and I had to cross check with other performances and the sheet. It’s a tone flatter than it’s supposed to be. Sounds wrong if you know the piece, but not completely “off” harmonically so it doesn’t disturb the listener. I was going to ask in the comments but then saw yours :)
