I was told once by a music professor that Bach should always be played exactly as written with only stepped dynamics. Sad when one knows everything there is to know, there is nothing left to learn. How can music that is all heart be played with no heart? Smaro plays with a very big heart.

Yo creo que a Bach no se le puede interpretar, solo cabe servirle y creo que Smaro eres una gran servidora de Bach. Uno no suele pensar cuando abre el ordenador en dedicarle casi media hora a un video de youtube, pero cuando suena Bach así de auténticamente servido uno se rinde a escuchar hasta que la obra concluya. Gracias por la pureza de Bach.

I like your playing very much. Came to know you through your arrangement for Bach's Toccata BWV 914 (which is amazing !!). As a violin player (and also one with a absolute pitch, a gift and a curse alike :-), the fact that you chose a different key (in this case - D minor instead of the original A minor key) is something that makes my entire listening experience odd. On one hand - I feel that I know the piece (which I do of course), but at the same time - these are the "wrong" notes :-) ... Anyway , you are doing a magical work here. Loved your comment, but please consider that Bach himself transcribed this same Sonata in D minor for the harpsichord (BWV 964) as he did in many other cases with a plethora of his pieces. This was a defining factor for my own approach into this incredible work. Consequently, to my mind, it is not a matter of wrong or right notes here, more than an ability to envision the music in a way which can go beyond our individuality. Thanks again and take care!
