I've used this extensively when I was doing tool and die stuff. It's a pleasure to use but it gets really messy since the hand used to drive the radius is literally under the wheel. Also very easy to grind angles tangent to the radius.

I rebuilt a few of those buggers when I worked at J & S Tool. Oddly we never used them ourselves. We had a whole room of them too. We made them up to like 4 feet tall. Imagine standing under one of those.

Hi Dave. I've never seen one of these in real life but it looks very well made (and intricate). I've used the "last word" style extensively, and that's the one I'm most comfortable with. Of course I have the little raddii/angle dresser I did a video on a while back. It gets the job done but not what I would use to make money. Kudos to you on your great camera work and narration. Looking forward to your next video. Cheers, Mike

What we said was that no one really knew how those dressers worked but Henry. I worked at the place that made them. Mostly I made hold down clamps but sometimes I'd work in the dresser department.

Hi from America Dave, Brilliant job talking about the A&S Tool Co. Diamond wheel dresser. I am quite good friends with the owners of J&S tool co. They are in Newton New Jersey on Paterson Street now in a wonderful shop. I was very surprised that one of their dressers made it all the way to South Australia! Just found your channel not more than 20 Minutes ago. looks like a great channel if you would like more information about your dresser please let me know and I will see what I can do to get information you require to you. regards, Craig.

Hello Craig, thanks for watching and this excellent message. I purchased it from a Guy in the USA who was closing his shop as he was retiring. I paid $ 200 plus about the same postage. I also got from him the Harig GrindAll No.1 which if you do manage to watch any of my other videos is the one called eccentric milling. The J & S was in mint condition, still with the original instructions and a carry case. I have also downloaded from their website a .pdf version as my original was a bit creased and stained. Thank you for the offer of getting any information. Unless there is anything different than is on their website, I am fine thank you. Regards.

I'm surprised J & S is still in business. That place was on its last legs when I was there over 30 years ago.

@@daveticehurst4191 when those dressers were brand new they were shiny and bright. Yours is in used condition. Now J & S used to offer a service where they'd rebuild the units. But it cost about half as much as a new one did. We'd spiff them up as much as we could but they're weren't quite brand new. The running joke in the shop was only old Henry really knew how those dressers worked. He invented them. He's long dead today too.

Hi Dave Great demo, it look as if its an expensive bit of kit when made back in it's day, or is it modern!!!, thanks for sharing take care Kev
@daveticehurst41912 жыл бұрын
Hi Kev, thanks for the comment. I think that it looks to be early 1970's from the case and the instructions printing. I paid US $ 200 plus another US $ 160 for shipping. That's the trouble with the USA you can buy an item say for $ 5 and it costs you $ 50 for postage, for even just a small jiffy bag. That's why I can not understand the postage from China, you can buy a reasonable quality drill vice for $ 30 weighing a good 5 Kilo and it comes free postage. Will put it away again for ????? who knows. Look after yourself. Regards.
@MrFactotum2 жыл бұрын
@@daveticehurst4191 Thanks for the info. it puts in in to perspective, i've always wondered that about postage, especially China, when a component worth a couple of pound comes free post, surely the postage must cost more than that.?????!!! I don't get it!!! but i'm not complaining, the bubble will burst soon!!!! see you next time take care Kev

@@daveticehurst4191 Beyond the materials dressers didn't change. Well the marking did on them. The really old ones were nickel chrome steel. Then they switched over to just cold rolled. I was having a problem grinding a rebuild once and the foremen told me about it. So I sent it to Stanley to grind on the big wet wheel. China has developing nation status. So their shipping gets internationally subsidized. It's a crock. They seem pretty developed now to me.

@daveticehurst41919 ай бұрын
Hi Bill, Thanks for the view and your question. Do you own or can borow one of these, or is it a general question ? Are you speaking of a long taper ? Send me an email if you like with a photo or sketch of what you are wanting to do. Generally it is not a good idea to use the side of a wheel for form grinding, althought with a relief you can grind a vertical face say like the jaw of a small vice.
