What do you do, if you DON"T want to cut off the coolant lines and reroute them?

The hose clamps can be a rear PITA. I usually take off the 2 bolts and 2 nuts (12MM) that attach the throttle body to the intake and separate the 2. That way you don’t even have to mess with the coolant lines under the throttle body. I had to on this engine because someone put RTV between the throttle body and the intake. Which was done wrong because there should be a gasket there not RTV.

J series are cool! Made around 25 years. I'd say that's a pretty good run. Very smooth, good quiet spool up... I give it two thumbs up!!! Just ask agent "J"!!!

Had great difficulty removing the rear valve cover the wiring harness is too stiff to make room ugh it was frustrating

When installing all hoses that connect to metal nipples, applying a very little amount of silicone-based grease goes a long way. I use Shinetsu silicone (available at online Honda/Acura parts vendors), Honda silicone or Dow Coning silicone (#111 or #55). I also apply them onto metal brackets to which the electrical connectors are attached; the metal brackets rust and the electrical connectors literally "fuse" with them over time. Silicone grease can also be used on the v. cover gaskets, plug hole seals or any engine seals & O-rings. It makes installation easier & keeps the seals pliable for a long time. Engine oil can be used too, but over time rubber seals/O-rings get rock hard even immersed in oil.

Would you say if I wanted to replace my 05 RL valve covers will they be interchangeable with other j series valve covers?

Bump. Same issue valve covers are pretty corroded where the coil packs sit

I'm not sure, but I think the coolant flows thru the throttle body to prevent throttle body icing. I think it's important to prevent that.

If in an area where you would worry about freezing in the winter, you wouldn't want to do a TB coolant bypass. In most of the western states, doing the bypass will actually have your engine run cooler since you aren't having heat soak from the TB.

I thought Hondas used a fast idle coolant thermo valve from those coolant lines to throttle body? D & B series used it & that was the reason for those coolant lines at the throttle body. With them removed the idle air control valve (electric) would have a hard time finding fast idle at cold start.

The J35A8 (UA7 3.5L; 2007-2008 3G Acura TL Type-S) is identical to the J32A3 (UA6; 3.2L, 2004~2006 3G TL). The 3.7 should be pretty much the same with minor differences.

When should I get a valve adjustment? Is it a certain mileage?

When you do your timing belt, right around 100,000 miles to 105,000 miles.
