I got into Phish during this era. The vibe was soooo mellow. Everyone was so kind and gentle. Things changed after Jerry died in 1995, and the phan population suddenly grew by millions. The deadheads needed somewhere to go.

My brother had the VHS with cover art of this show. It was my first time experiencing Phish. I think hw gave it to the local video store where it was always checked out. Thought I'd never see this again. I like to think he started a wave of new phans in our town during the late 90s.

I came late to PHiSH after decades of traipsing to Dead shows. I'd heard about this "phish" band and was urged to check them out. I also play went to shows for the music, to learn, and enjoy. I quickly sussed the basic paradox: PHiSH are nothing like the Dead and entirely like the Dead. The most succinct way I can put it: After BFA, the Dead really began to stagnate in musical growth. What I love so much about PHiSH is their dedication to the music and musical growth and exploration

I was a student at Plattsburgh State College in upstate New York in 1990. It's located only a few miles from Burlington Vermont. The bar I used to hang out at had a great house band. Trey used to sit in with them and I'd sit there amazed at his virtuosity. I had no idea who he was until a few years later when they broke big I saw a picture of him and I was shocked. "Holy crap, I know that guy! I used to talk music with him after he'd jam with the house band. I still can't believe it.

@beppegenoano one of the most unique shows I ever saw was in Italy. '96 Europe. A lovely town called Sesto Calende. Incredible scene, the venue literally had a beach out the back steps and a river going by. Maybe 300 people, it was HOT and packed though. I remember a girl fainting in front before the show. I can't believe myself and my moron friends actually found the place! Thank goodness we hooked up with some kids who spoke spanish which was enough to get us by and there! Good time ;-)

I saw Phish 1990 at Mabel's in Champagne IL & in the student union cafeteria at Northwestern in Evanston IL. They had tramps and Trey smacked his guitar neck while jumping and spinning. Between sets they were sitting in a booth on top of my jacket. I asked Trey if he had a back up guitar in case he broke his. He said "no, didn't even think of it. But that's a really good idea. I better have my guy make up another one".
@pbskl14 жыл бұрын
To appreciate Phish, you gotta see them live. I was never a phan, but I figured the thousands of people who follow Trey and co. around just to relive that experience again and again can't be wrong. They aren't. Grab your drug of choice and find a Phish show, it will blow your fucking mind.

Also, Dead jams often meandered gently down winding paths out to the stew and back. PHiSH did the same thing at warp factor 8. The biggest difference I found between PHiSH and The Dead was cultural. PHiSH shows seemed to me to have an "OUR Band - No Dead Heads Allowed" vibe. There was always a sense at Dead shows, at their best, of "The more the merrier". Envision a '94 era PHiSH show with a '74 era Dead scene. Ooooooh, my! :>)
