This is one of a series of videos where I cover concepts relating to digital electronics. In this video I talk about decoders, how they are made, and how you can use them

i never imagined that some of these logic circuits could be so simply interpreted, and yet could create such complex manchines as the computer i am currently on. I realize now that you could do some microcoding this way with decoders ! really nice :)

Besides the helpful information, reversed writing at its finest!!!!! WOW! Wait, or is there any photography trick here? Like using mirrors? I don't know, whatever that is, I just find it awesome! lol

+David “Dave” Tassoni : No, he flipped the video, but in order to do that, he had to write reversely! That is why you can see him behind the letters, not in front of them. This guy has an incredible talent

No he doesn't have to write reversely? He is standing behind a glass and writing normally, then the video is flipped around sideways... That's why he appears left-handed

google 'The Learning Glass' by Matt Anderson. this guy uses the same mechanism to that. and nope, he wasn't writing reversely.

In the very end when you combined two 2x4 decoders to make a 3x8 decoder you used C as enabler. But there must be MSB connected to enable pin which is A in your case. Overall video lecture was great.

Sorry I'm a bit late to this discussion, just a small addition to your final '3 to 8' decoder. If you had used a separate '2 to 4' decoder to generate 4 separate enables (first level), to four decoders (second level), you would have gotten a '4 to 16' decoder overall. The tradeoffs are time delay, additional current demand and space on your circuit board. Otherwise an enjoyable video, including for review.

Hi I'm 11, in my school they don't teach me electrónics, I come hére because I was building happily my 2-BIT ALU in Minecraft when someone said, you'll need a decoder. I came hére and I didn't understand es Nothing, i dont know What type of Logic gates are the ones that look like AND but have a circle in front. I know the instructions are 8 BIT, but what is a diode, and how do you know that the wires you choose for decoding: 0,1,2,3 were right. Sorry, I'm only 11 and in my school they dont teach me electronics.
