Fab little ship. Doesn't look as crowded as I imagined. I liked the little touches with the little swinging pod chairs and the cabins seemed pretty comfy. xx

Looked like a lovely and relaxing cruise onboard a nice ship. Sadly, I won't get the chance to sail on her now that she has been sold for scrap. I'm a bit late to the cruising party and seem to have "missed the boat" on sailing on these older, but smaller, ships. Cruising is but a distant dream at the time of writing.

Looks good. Have cruised on numerous ships/lines but never Marella (Thompson) - but have just booked on the Dream for a week in November! Videos like this have convinced me there's no need to worry or be a cruise snob.

Hi Jamie, Loved your video thanks. I have booked to go on the Marella dream doing the 2 week Caribbean cruise with my best friend. I’m a little nervous as neither of us have been on a cruise before. I have read some reviews that are not great, due to the ships age. What’s your thoughts for a first time cruise? Do you think I’ve made the right choice for us?

Hi Krystal - I think the first thing to consider is whether you like the look of the ship from the video. I'll be honest, she's not the most modern ship by any means, and I think facilities are better on others I have sailed on. However, she still has a lot to offer, the crew are wonderful and we had a great week. I do prefer the Marella Discovery, having said this.

Hi Jamie, thanks for sharing yet another excellent video. I was just wondering how would you compere Marella with P&O? We have done 28 with Marella and the Spirit being our favourite ship but she is no longer in service. We did the Dream the 2nd year it sailed and was not too impressed with the layout, food or entertainment. We will be heading for the Britannia in July and will be our first time on that ship, but have done Ventura, Oceana, Oriana and Azura.x

Hi Sharon. Thanks for posting :) I've done about 20 P&O cruises and other lines too. they all have their strengths and weaknesses, I think. I thought the staff on Marella were absolutely excellent and much more consistent than on P&O. Drinks are good value on Marella too and I like the space in the cabins. I preferred P&O food, and as much as I loved the Dream and the fact she never felt too crowded, I do prefer Britannia for the variety of restaurants, things to do, I love her pools (normally heated) and her bars are lovely. BUT it's all down to personal taste. Hope you enjoy!

Marella are well known for their friendly crew and staff and that is one of the reasons why they are so popular, shame you never got to experience the Spirit, it was like one big family each time we sailed on her. x @@TravelBlogJamie

There are 2 pools (although sea water - very cold!) and 2 jacuzzis - all in the video if you want to have a look :) I liked all the destinations for different reasons tbh - always plenty to do in the Canaries / Madeira and Morocco :) Have a great time!

It was our last day in Gran Canaria - we left the ship at 5.30pm so had most the day out and about and on the ship. The Poema del Mar aquarium is a ten min walk from the ship - to the right of the massive shopping centre at the end of the dock.

I've only cruised with P&O and have always taken my tux for formal nights. I have my first cruise on the Dream later this month. What is the general consensus on gala nights? Do I need to take my tux, or do not many people bother?

It's up to you. Really very mixed attire on board - some in a tux, some a suit, some smart casual and others very informal. Completely your choice and whatever you decide you won't feel out of place.
